Toliver underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in September of 2023, so she already appeared to be on track to miss at least part of the 2024 season for the Mystics. It's unclear whether Friday's announcement indicates she's retiring or if she plans to return to the court as a player at some point when she's healthy. The 36-year-old has coaching experience in the NBA with Washington and Dallas and should be a welcome addition to new Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts' staff. If Toliver is retiring, she finishes her playing career with averaged of 11.0 points, 3.3 assists and 2.0 rebounds in 25.7 minutes per game over 14 seasons.

Toliver suffered the injury so late in the 2023 season that her status for the start of 2024 could be in jeopardy. The team's official release said further updates will be provided as appropriate, but her recovery timetable remains unclear.

Toliver left Sunday's game against the Sparks due to a knee issue, and as expected, she's suffered a significant injury. The veteran guard will certainly miss the remainder of the 2023 campaign, and her status for 2024 is also in jeopardy. In her absence, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Brittney Sykes are candidates for increased roles.

Toliver was forced to exit her team's last matchup against the Sparks due to a knee injury, and it'll force her to miss additional time. The severity of the issue is unclear at this time, but her next opportunity to return will arrive Friday against the Dream.

Toliver scored three points in just two minutes of action before going down with a knee injury while trying to make a play at the end of the first quarter. The severity of the injury has not been specified to this point, but she had to be carried off the court, and it would not be surprising if she misses time.
