NEW YORK, Sept. 4, 2025 – Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has been suspended one game after receiving her eighth technical foul of the 2025 season, the WNBA announced today.
Under WNBA rules, a player or coach is automatically suspended without pay for one game upon receiving an eighth technical foul during the regular season. For every two additional technical fouls received during that regular season, the player or coach will be automatically suspended for an additional game.
Reese incurred her eighth technical foul with 0:46 remaining in the second quarter during Wednesday’s game versus the Connecticut Sun. She will serve her suspension on September 5, when the Sky visits the Indiana Fever.

With just over three weeks remaining in the regular season, we take a look at one key player (sometimes two) from each team – some All-Stars and some X-factors – to keep an eye on as the stretch run heats up.

Despite losing the league’s top scorer and leading MVP candidate, Napheesa Collier, for the past two weeks (and no definitive timetable for a return), the Lynx have not missed a stride – winning all four games that Collier has missed. The key is Minnesota’s depth, led by its two other 2025  All-Stars. Williams has picked up her scoring (averaging a team-high 18.5 since Collier has been out), while McBride is shooting 46.9% from 3 in the month of August.

On a team with three All-Stars &#8212; Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard and Brionna Jones &#8212; it&#8217;s a player that just entered the starting lineup in August that leads the team in point differential (+6.4). In fact, the Dream are 12.3 points per 100 possessions better when Hillmon is on court (+12.9 net rating) compared to when she&#8217;s off (+0.6 net rating). Gray is second on that list with a 6.5 pts per 100 poss differential.

Signed on Aug. 1 to help fill the void left by Breanna Stewart – who last played on July 26 and is projected to return near the end of August – the Liberty swapped in one former Finals MVP (Meesseman in 2019) for another (Stewart in 2018 and 2020). In her first seven games in New York, the Belgian center is averaging 15.3 points per game on 51.9% FG, 60% 3P and 90.5% FT shooting splits, along with 5.7 boards, 3.7 assists, a steal and a block in her first WNBA action since 2022 with Chicago.

4. Phoenix: Alyssa Thomas

Alyssa Thomas did not record a single triple-double in her first eight WNBA seasons combined. Her first came on July 22, 2022 and she’s added 19 more since – including five so far in her first season in Phoenix. Thomas has more triple-doubles in her first 28 games with the Mercury than any other player in WNBA history has for their entire career. Thomas’ ability to impact all facets of the game has lifted Phoenix to its first 20+ win season since 2018 and has the Mercury in the race for home-court advantage in the playoffs.

5. Las Vegas: Jewell Loyd

As part of a three-team deal in February, the Aces acquired Jewell Loyd from Seattle, while sending Kelsey Plum to Los Angeles. After playing her first decade with the Storm, Loyd got off to a slow start in her first season in Las Vegas. However, she is currently playing her best ball of the season – coinciding with the Aces’ season-high seven-game win streak. Over eight games in August, Loyd is averaging 14.8 ppg on 45.9% shooting overall and 45.6% from 3-point range – providing a consistent perimeter scoring threat to complement A’ja Wilson’s work in the frontcourt.

6. Indiana: Kelsey Mitchell

With Caitlin Clark limited to just 13 of Indiana’s 35 games due to three separate injuries, fellow guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald out for the season, and Sophie Cunningham leaving Sunday’s game with a knee injury, the Fever have shown their resilience to remain in the thick of the playoff hunt. A key reason is the play of Kelsey Mitchell, who erupted for a career-high-tying 38 points (34 coming in the 2nd half and OT) to lead the Fever to a franchise-record 21-point comeback on Sunday. Ironically, Mitchell’s two 38-point games have both come against Connecticut – six years apart.

7. Golden State: Veronica Burton

Burton arrived in the Bay with career averages of 5.5 points, 3.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds over her first three seasons in Dallas and Connecticut. In her first season with the Valkyries, Burton has thrived – averaging career-bests of 11.3 points, 5.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 38.2% shooting from beyond the arc. And she’s peaking at the right time. Burton has increased both her scoring and shooting percentage month over month all season, currently at 13.5 points on 48.6% shooting from deep over eight games in August, helping the Valkyries set the record for most wins by an expansion team in its inaugural season.

8. Seattle: Brittney Sykes

As Seattle pushes for a playoff berth, Sykes’ ability to impact the game on both ends of the court will be key to complement fellow All-Stars Skylar Diggins, Nneka Ogwumike and Gabby Williams. The Storm enter this week clinging to the eighth and final playoff berth, leading the No. 9 Sparks and No,. 10 Mystics by just a half-game each.

9. Los Angeles: Kelsey Plum

Twelve years later, Plum is on pace to join Taurasi as she’s averaging 21.0 points and 6.6 assists – ranking third in the league in both categories – in her first season in Los Angeles. How important has Plum’s scoring been for the Sparks this season? L.A. is 12-9 when she scores 20+ points and 4-8 when she’s held below 20 points.

Citron leads the Mystics in scoring (15.2 ppg, 17th in WNBA), while Iriafen leads the team in rebounding (8.5 rpg, 4th in WNBA). With five rookies on the roster and only two players – Alysha Clark (via the Sykes trade) and Stephanie Dolson – on the squad, the Mystics are building for the future. Getting Citron and Iriafen more experience this season will be key.

And she’s one of only two rookies – along with last year’s Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark – to average at least 15 points and five assists in their debut season.

The team is 0-7 in the games she’s missed in her first season in Chi-town after spending the first seven seasons – including the 2019 title run – in Washington. Meanwhile, Reese has appeared in only two of Chicago&#8217;s last dozen games due to a back injury, but is ramping up for a return. Despite appearing in only 23 games, Reese leads the W in double-doubles (17, tied with Thomas) and rebounds (12.6 rpg), while increasing her scoring, shooting, assists, steals and blocks over her rookie year.

Uncasville, CT (August 7, 2025) – Today, the Connecticut Sun announced that the organization has acquired forward Aaliyah Edwards from the Washington Mystics, in exchange for Jacy Sheldon and the right to swap Washington’s 2026 1st round pick (Minnesota’s) for Connecticut’s 2026 1st round pick (New York’s).
“We are incredibly grateful for everything Jacy has given to the Connecticut Sun,” said Morgan Tuck, Connecticut Sun General Manager. “She brought passion, professionalism, and heart to this organization every time she stepped on the court, and her impact was felt far beyond the box score. While it’s always difficult to say goodbye, we’re excited for what’s ahead for Jacy and wish her nothing but success on her new team.”
Edwards joins the Sun after spending her WNBA career thus far with the Washington Mystics. She was drafted by the Mystics as the sixth pick overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft and averaged 7.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assists on 18.5 minutes per game during her time in Washington. The 6-3 forward played four seasons with the University of Connecticut Huskies and averaged 13.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game over 132 career games. Edwards left Storrs with a plethora of honors including WBCA All-American (2024), USBWA Second Team All-America (2024), AP Third Team All-America (2023), All-BIG EAST First Team (2023, 24), BIG EAST Most Improved Player (2023), BIG EAST Sixth Woman of the Year (2021) and BIG EAST All-Freshman Team (2021). At the time she left Storrs, Edwards also ranked 15th in program history in scoring (1,861), eighth in rebounds (1,020) and sixth in double-doubles (35). Edwards helped lead UConn to four BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Championships, along with three NCAA Final Fours and one NCAA National Championship game appearance. The Kingston, Ontario native has also represented her country at the international level, notably being the youngest member of the 2020 Canadian Olympic squad in Tokyo and making a second appearance in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

SEATTLE — The Seattle Storm today announced the team has acquired 2025 All-Star Brittney Sykes in a trade with the Washington Mystics. In exchange, the Mystics will receive 3x WNBA Champion Alysha Clark, guard Zia Cooke and one of Seattle’s 2026 first round draft picks.  
Sykes has averaged 15.4 points, 4.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game, while shooting 31.8% from beyond the arc. This season, she received her first All-Star selection, and has four WNBA All-Defensive Team selections, twice to the First Team (2021, 2023) and twice to the Second Team (2020, 2022). In 2021 and 2022, Sykes was the WNBA leader in steals, and in 2017, she received a selection to the WNBA All-Rookie team after averaging 13.9 points and shooting 40.8% from the field.  
Over the course of her two stints in Seattle (2012-2020, 2025), Clark played 300 games, the fifth most in franchise history. She also played a pivotal role in helping the Storm win two WNBA championships (2018, 2020). This season, Clark has averaged 3.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.7 steals per game. While in Seattle, Clark was just as impactful in the community as she was on the court. She was instrumental in starting the organization’s annual toy drive benefiting Seattle Children’s Hospital.    
Cooke has averaged just over 10 minutes of play per game in 2025 and has been shooting a career-high 38.2% from the three. Cooke was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2023 draft selected by the Los Angeles Sparks. There, she spent two seasons playing a total of 68 games, averaging 11.9 minutes, 4.3 points and shot 30% from the field. Cooke, a former South Carolina Gamecock, won a national championship with the team in 2022 and was a Third-Team All-American in 2023.

Arlington, TX (Aug. 3, 2025) – The Dallas Wings have traded DiJonai Carrington to the Minnesota Lynx, the teams announced today. The Wings receive third-year forward Diamond Miller, seventh-year guard Karlie Samuelson and Minnesota’s 2027 WNBA Draft Second Round pick. In order to complete the trade, the Wings waived Teaira McCowan.
Miller was the No. 2 overall pick by the Lynx in the 2023 WNBA Draft. The 6-3 forward garnered WNBA All-Rookie Team honors after finishing second in scoring (12.1 ppg), fifth in rebounding (3.5 rpg) and second in assists (2.5 apg) among all newcomers. In 2025, Miller leads all forwards in three-point shooting, making 53.8-percent of her attempts from deep. She has appeared in 25 games this season, averaging 4.1 points while shooting .476 overall.
A 2023 WBCA All-American while at the University of Maryland, Miller was a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten honoree while leading the Terrapins with 19.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game during her senior season. Her 19.7 scoring average was the most by a Terrapin since Brionna Jones averaged 19.9 in 2016-17. The three-time All-Big Ten honoree scored in double figures in 33 of 34 games played in 2022-23.
Samuelson has been limited to 16 games this year following an injury and subsequent surgery on her left foot. The Stanford grad was traded to Minnesota from the Washington Mystics this past April. Over 121 career games, the 6-0 guard has averaged 5.3 points and 2.0 rebounds while shooting .411 from the field and .392 from three.
Carrington was acquired by the Wings in a four-team trade this past February. She has appeared in 20 games in 2025, making 13 starts, averaging 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals.
The Wings acquired McCowan in 2022 from the Indiana Fever. She has averaged double-figure scoring and at least 7.0 rebounds per game in six of her first seven seasons in the WNBA. She has finished in the top 13 in rebounding and top eight in field goal percentage in each of her first six seasons heading into 2025. The 6-7 center from Mississippi State has appeared in 17 games in 2025, averaging 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting .537 from the field. She was the No. 3 overall pick by the Indiana Fever in the 2019 WNBA Draft. McCowan’s career .570 field goal percentage while in a Wings uniform is a franchise career record. Her 896 Dallas rebounds rank sixth in franchise history, while her 103 blocks list seventh.

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Mercury today announced the signing and return of two-time WNBA Champion forward DeWanna Bonner. In a corresponding roster move, Mercury forward Murjanatu Musa has been waived.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have DeWanna back in a Mercury uniform,” said Mercury General Manager Nick U’Ren. “She is a true winner, leader and one of the most talented and versatile players in our game. Her high basketball IQ, shooting range, athleticism and ability to play and defend multiple positions is going to be a great addition to what are we building here in Phoenix.”
Bonner makes her return to Phoenix after spending the first 10 years of her career with the Mercury (2009-16, 2018-19), where she helped bring two WNBA Championships to the Valley in 2009 and 2014. The 15-year veteran is a six-time WNBA All-Star (2015, 2018-19, 2021, 2023-24), two-time All-WNBA selection (2015, 2020), three-time Sixth Player of the Year (2009-11), All-Defensive Second Team selection (2015) and ranks third on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list.
Last season with the Connecticut Sun, the 6-4 wing averaged a team-high 15.0 points along with 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals. Bonner played the last five seasons (2020-24) in Connecticut, where she helped lead the Sun to a 2022 WNBA Finals appearance and five consecutive semifinals alongside Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas. She holds the Sun franchise records for most points in a game (41) and most points in a season (697 in 2023). Bonner appeared in nine games this season with the Indiana Fever, averaging 7.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals.
Originally selected fifth overall in the 2009 WNBA Draft by the Mercury, Bonner holds career averages of 14.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 511 games (402 starts). She is currently third in WNBA history in points (7,546), games played (511) and free throws made (1,880), fifth in minutes played (15,442), seventh in field goals made (2,517), ninth in three-point field goals made (632) and rebounds (3,101), and 12th in steals (614). Bonner joins Tamika Catchings as the only players in WNBA history to reach 7,000 points, 3,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists in their careers. She ranks second in Mercury history in games played, minutes played, steals and double-doubles and third in points, rebounds, assists and blocks.
