Now that the All-Star break has come and gone, the second half of the WNBA’s regular season gets underway on Tuesday. The focus will soon shift to the playoff picture for the final months of the 2025 campaign.
The Minnesota Lynx might stand alone atop the latest WNBA standings, but the New York Liberty remain the betting favorites to win this year’s championship at the BetMGM <a href="https://sports.betmgm.com/en/sports">online sportsbook</a>. The Liberty defeated the Lynx in last year’s WNBA Finals for their first title.
New York is now trading at +140 to win the championship, translating to an implied probability of 41.67% to go back-to-back. The Liberty, who started with a +200 value when the market opened, have received 9.6% of all championship bets and 11% of the handle at BetMGM.
The Liberty began the year with a 9-0 record, which was tied for the fourth-best undefeated start in WNBA history. They have gone 6-6 since then, a stretch that coincides with Jonquel Jones being sidelined with an injury. Jones is expected to return after the break.
Minnesota also started 9-0 this year and has maintained that momentum. The Lynx are 20-4 coming out of the break, which includes a 12-0 clip at home. They have gone from +400 to +200 (33.33% implied probability) in the <a href="https://sports.betmgm.com/en/blog/wnba/wnba-championship-odds-bm23/">WNBA championship odds</a> market, receiving 14% of bets and 11.4% of the handle.
The biggest risers in this market have been the Phoenix Mercury, who are now +600 to win it all after starting with a +4000 price tag. They are currently the No. 3 seed in the updated WNBA playoff picture.
Despite a 12-11 record at the break, the Indiana Fever are the only other team listed better than 20/1 to claim the title. They are +700 due to the betting action, having received 41.3% of bets and 59.6% of the handle.
The Las Vegas Aces (+2000), Seattle Storm (+2000), and Atlanta Dream (+2200) round out the teams better than 80/1. Las Vegas opened at +400, while Seattle started at +900. Atlanta has climbed from its starting price tag of +4000.

The 2025 WNBA All-Star Weekend has officially arrived! This year, Indiana takes center stage as the Fever host a showcase of the league’s top talent. The weekend is packed with action, leading up to the All-Star Game on Saturday, July 19. Festivities tip off Friday night, July 18 with the Skills Challenge, where select players will navigate obstacle courses and display their on-court versatility. Immediately following is the fan-favorite 3-Point Contest, featuring some of the league&#8217;s sharpest shooters.
On Saturday, Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier will serve as team captains, having already drafted their squads from a pool of All-Star selections. A standout feature of the event is the AT&amp;T 4-Point Shot, which allows players to score from designated zones located roughly six feet beyond the standard three-point arc — adding extra excitement.
However, the Fever’s hometown star Caitlin Clark announced she will not participate in any on-court events after reaggravating a groin injury during Tuesday’s matchup against the Sun. In her absence, Mystics guard Brittney Sykes and Dream forward Brionna Jones have been named as replacements for Clark and the injured Satou Sabally of the Mercury on Team Clark.

One of the most productive deep threats in league history, Plum ranks 15th all-time in threes made (542), but her efficiency has been a little up and down lately. She holds a career 3PT% of 38.6%, and she’s hovered right around or just under that over the last three seasons: 38.9%, 36.8%, and 35.8% this year.
Back in 2022, she didn’t make it past Round 1 after putting up 14 points, but she did bounce back in a big way, winning All-Star MVP that same weekend. She’s also been hot lately, shooting 53% from deep over her last four games. So yeah, she could definitely put on a show. That said, a 19.5-point line in Round 1 feels a little rich for me to back.

If there’s one rookie I’m backing to go off during All-Star Weekend, it’s Sonia Citron. She’s already made a splash in her first year in the league — ranking second among rookies in made threes over an 11-game sample, and becoming the first rookie in Mystics history to drop 25+ points and 10+ rebounds in a single game. That alone would turn heads, but she’s also been named an All-Star reserve in Year 1.
When it comes to her shooting, the Notre Dame product has the résumé. She finished her college career as a 37% three-point shooter, with her sophomore season peaking at an impressive 40% from deep. This season in the W, she’s knocking down 36.5% from three, and with open looks and some All-Star spotlight? I’m betting the 21-year-old rises to the occasion.

There’s no shortage of talent on either roster, but the current MVP frontrunner has assembled a stacked squad. Both Storm reps — Skylar Diggins-Smith and Nneka Ogwumike — are averaging over 17 points per game, with Nneka adding 7.7 boards and bringing nine All-Star nods to the table. Kelsey Plum, as mentioned earlier, is a legit threat from deep, a former All-Star Game MVP, and currently ranks third in the league in scoring.
And first? That would be Captain Napheesa Collier. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is having a monster all-around season, leading the league in scoring, grabbing 7.6 rebounds, and swiping 1.8 steals per game, all while anchoring the league’s best defensive rating.
Team Clark isn’t short on firepower either, with sharp-shooter Sabrina Ionescu and Fever standouts Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell both heating up recently. But when it comes to closing out All-Star Weekend with a W, I’m rolling with Team Collier.

2025 WNBA All-Star Best Bets: 3-Point Contest, All-Star Game Odds

We’re nearing the halfway point of the 2025 WNBA season, so let’s take a quick look at where things stand. Minnesota’s sitting comfortably on the throne at 17–3, winning eight of their last ten. But right on their heels is a red-hot Mercury squad that’s also taken eight of ten — and just snatched the league’s second-best record from the defending champs in New York. The Liberty have stumbled a bit lately, dropping six of their last ten, while Seattle and Atlanta are quietly pulling away from the pack with 12 wins each. Meanwhile, Dallas, Chicago, and Connecticut are holding down the bottom.

The Favorite: Napheesa Collier (-400)
Collier looks like she’s running away with this award. Since being held to just 12 points on 6-of-18 shooting in the Commissioner’s Cup Final, she’s been locked in — averaging 22.3 points, 6.3 boards, and shooting a blistering 55% from the field. The UConn product still leads the league in scoring and ranks second in True Shooting percentage at 63.1%. Oh, and she just earned her fifth All-Star start. Her offense speaks for itself, but don’t forget — she’s also the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, averaging 1.5 blocks per game and anchoring a Lynx defense that holds the league’s best defensive rating (94.3).
Next in Line: Alyssa Thomas (+1000)
We’ve got movement! The last time we checked in on the W’s MVP odds, Thomas wasn’t even in the top six — she was sitting way back at +12000. Now? She’s Collier’s biggest challenger, with the second-lowest odds at +1000. Let’s start with her last game: Thomas was huge in the Mercury’s win over the league-leading Lynx, dropping a career-high 29 points. Then she followed it up with her 16th career triple-double in a win over the Wings on Monday — the most in WNBA history. At 33, she’s been a driving force behind Phoenix’s recent surge.

The Favorite: NY Liberty (+180)
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little surprised the reigning champs are still the favorites to go back-to-back. The Liberty opened the season at +225 to win it all and have only slightly improved to +180 — with the Lynx right behind them at +220. They do lead the league in scoring at 86.7 PPG but trail the Lynx in offensive rating (107.3) and sit behind both Minnesota and the Valkyries in defensive rating (98.1). New York’s dropped six of their last ten, but Sabrina Ionescu is heating back up — averaging 21 points and 6.8 boards over her last four. Breanna Stewart has been steady, too. The Liberty still have the star power… but with the way things are trending, it’s fair to ask: how long can they hold onto that top spot?

Weekend Preview
Atlanta Dream at Indiana Fever, Friday 7:30 p.m. ET
The Dream have crept into the W’s top four, going 6–4 in their last 10 and sitting just ahead of the Storm. They’re coming off a big win over Golden State, led by Allisha Gray’s 24-point night — and she’s been cooking lately, averaging 19.4 PPG on 41.6% from deep. The Fever got Caitlin Clark back on Wednesday, but she struggled with 10 points on 4-of-12 shooting. Plus, Coach Stephanie White said the team lacked “competitive fire,” and it showed. Still, there have been bright spots: Aliyah Boston was on a tear before last game’s 6-point blip — putting up 19.8 PPG and 9.1 boards over the six prior — while Kelsey Mitchell is averaging 20.75 PPG over her last eight.
Both teams are neck-and-neck defensively — Atlanta (99.9) and Indiana (99.5) in rating — but this one likely comes down to the boards. The Fever allow the fewest opponent rebounds in the league, with the Dream right behind them. As good as Boston has been (9.1 RPG last 10), I’m fading her glass game here.

Connecticut Sun at Seattle Storm, Friday 10:00 p.m. ET
Sometimes you look at a line on DraftKings Sportsbook and just think, “Yikes.” The Storm are massive favorites at -2800, despite just losing to this Sun squad on Wednesday, 93–83. That win snapped a brutal 10-game skid for Connecticut — thanks to a massive Tina Charles performance: 29 points, 11 boards, and a whole lot of momentum. Now Seattle gets a shot at redemption at home. Depth has been a struggle all season — three players tore ACLs before the year even tipped — but the Storm still have two All-Stars in Nneka Ogwumike (17 PPG) and Skylar Diggins (18.5 PPG) leading the charge.
I’m all in on a bounce-back spot for Seattle… but let’s not act like the Sun are just gonna fold. They may rank dead last in offensive and defensive rating, but they closed Wednesday’s win with an 11–0 run in the fourth. Who’s to say they can’t do it again?

Golden State Valkyries at Las Vegas Aces, Saturday 4:00 p.m. ET
The league’s newest squad is coming off a 19-point win over the Fever, thanks in large part to Veronica Burton, who dropped 21 points and buried five threes. But the real standout for the Valkyries right now? Their defense. Golden State’s pressure-heavy system gave Caitlin Clark a nightmare on Wednesday, holding her to just 10 points on 4-of-12 shooting. The Valks now sit second in the league in defensive rating (97.3), hold opponents to the second-lowest PPG (77.3), and allow the lowest FG% (39.4%) in the W.
Now let’s talk Aces. Vegas has been riding a wave of up-and-down performances — and just took a major hit with A’ja Wilson sidelined by a wrist injury. She’s been averaging 21.9 points and 9 boards, and losing that kind of production is a serious setback for a team already sitting a game below .500. Jackie Young (17.2 PPG) has stepped up this season, but between Golden State’s suffocating defense and the hole left by Wilson, I’m staying away from backing Vegas here.

WNBA Best Bets for July 11: MVP, Finals Winner Odds and Weekend Preview

The 2025 Commissioner’s Cup Championship will take center stage when the Minnesota Lynx welcome the Indiana Fever at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday at the Target Center on Amazon Prime Video.
There will be more than bragging rights on the line when these two teams face off as the only game of the night. The winner of Tuesday’s showdown will earn a $500,000 prize pool.
According to the betting odds at the BetMGM <a href="https://sports.betmgm.com/en/sports">online sportsbook</a>, Minnesota enters the matchup as a 5.5-point favorite over Indiana. The total is listed at 166.5.

It’s worth noting that these odds could move depending on Caitlin Clark’s status. She remains uncertain for the game, having been sidelined for the last two contests with a groin injury. This comes after Clark missed five games with a quad injury earlier in the year.
If Clark can play, the Commissioner&#8217;s Cup final could be a signature game for the 2025 season. This game has been a WNBA Finals preview the last two years. 
The Lynx earned the Commissioner&#8217;s Cup with a 94-89 win over the New York Liberty last year, but ultimately lost the rematch in the WNBA Finals. In 2023, the Liberty secured an 82-63 victory over the Las Vegas Aces before ultimately losing in the WNBA Finals.
Minnesota has certainly looked like a team capable of returning to the WNBA Finals. The Lynx have the best record (14-2) and net rating in the league. Their net rating is 4.2 points better than anyone else.
Napheesa Collier, one of the captains of the All-Star Game along with Clark, has been the clear <a href="https://sports.betmgm.com/en/blog/wnba/wnba-mvp-odds-prediction-bm23/">WNBA MVP odds</a> favorite for much of the year. She’s averaging 24.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.8 steals per contest.
Indiana’s season has been more up-and-down, going 8-8 to begin the season. The Fever have yet to win more than two games in a row this season. They are fourth in the league with a net rating of +5.5.
The Commissioner’s Cup final could help Indiana jump-start its season. It could also be another chance for Minnesota to prove it&#8217;s the best team in the league.

Napheesa Collier’s MVP odds have surged—and for good reason. Even while sidelined with a back injury sustained on June 17, her dominance is undeniable. She’s missed the last two games, one of which handed the Lynx just their second loss of the season. But before the setback, Collier was nearly unstoppable, torching defenses with 25.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per game over her last five outings. Despite the pause, she still leads the league in scoring at 24.4 points per game, cementing her case as the early MVP frontrunner.
Caitlin Clark (+275)
Clark’s sophomore campaign has been hampered by injuries. After missing two weeks in May with a left quadriceps strain, she’s now dealing with a groin issue and will sit out Thursday’s game against the Sparks. She&#8217;s listed as day-to-day, which could impact her MVP odds the longer she’s sidelined. That said, Clark continues to facilitate at a high level—she’s tied with Alyssa Thomas for the league lead in assists per game (8.9) and is averaging 18.2 PPG. However, defenses have started to adjust, limiting her deep shooting; she’s gone 0-7, 1-10, and 0-6 from beyond the arc in her last three outings. While Collier appears to be pulling ahead, there’s still a long road to the finish.
Breanna Stewart (+2200)
Stewart has officially entered the conversation. As of May 27, reigning MVP A’ja Wilson held the third-shortest odds position, but Stewart’s rise to +2200 underscores her steady performance. Over her last 10 games, the 30-year-old is averaging 21.7 points while shooting an efficient 51.9% from the field. With Sabrina Ionescu struggling—which I’ll dive into later—Stewart has taken command for New York and shown she’s more than capable of making a serious MVP push.

The Favorite: NY Liberty (+125)
The reigning champs remain the favorites to go back-to-back. Entering the season with +225 odds to win it all, the New York Liberty have only strengthened their case. They lead the league in offensive rating (108.3), points per game (88.3), and net rating (13.9). Even more impressive? They boast two players averaging over 20 points per game—no surprise, it’s Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu. The addition of Natasha Cloud has also paid off in a big way, bringing elite perimeter defense, team-leading assist numbers, and trailing Ionescu in steals by just 0.2 per game. They face a surging Mercury squad tonight—a great test for the defending champs.
MIN Lynx (+270)
Minnesota, however, is hungry. Despite Napheesa Collier missing the last two games, the Lynx have maintained the league’s best defensive rating and held each of their last three opponents under 70 points. In her absence, others have stepped up in a big way—Kayla McBride dropped 29 points against the Sparks, and Alanna Smith put up 26 in a hard-fought loss to Washington. Once Collier returns to full strength, expect these odds to tighten and Minnesota to be right in the thick of the title race.

<h2> Weekend Preview</h2>
Chicago Sky at Golden State Valkyries, 10 p.m. ET
In their inaugural season, the Valkyries have proven they belong in the W—especially on their home court. Golden State is 5-3 at home and will look to make it 6-3 as they host a Sky team fresh off a 97–86 win over the Sparks. Angel Reese dominated with 18 points and 17 rebounds, while rookie Kamilla Cardoso poured in a career-high 27; however, Cardoso will be unavailable, stepping away to represent Brazil in international play. Golden State, meanwhile, has hit its stride defensively. The Valkyries are holding opponents to just 77.4 points per game, rank 4th in defensive rating (98.5), and average 8.4 steals—making them a tough matchup for turnover-prone teams. With a defensive edge and home-court momentum, the Valks offer solid value on both the spread and moneyline, and the under could be in play if they control the tempo.

Sabrina Ionescu has been off her mark lately, primarily due to a lingering neck injury she’s been managing over the past week. The 27-year-old shot just 1-for-11 in her last outing, finishing with 11 points in a narrow three-point win over the Valkyries. However, what makes the reigning champs so dangerous is their depth. Breanna Stewart posted 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Kennedy Burke came off the bench to add 20. New York continues to lead the league in both points per game (88.3) and offensive rating (108.5)—making them a tough team to fade most nights.
Next up? A red-hot Mercury squad riding a five-game win streak. In their last time meeting, Phoenix handed the Liberty a rare loss—an 89–81 victory powered by 21 points from Monique Akoa Makani, even as Stewart dropped 35 in the effort. Friday’s match promises to be a battle of the big dawgs: Satou Sabally is averaging 19.3 points on 39.3% shooting for Phoenix, while Stewart has put up 21.7 PPG over her last 10 games. Meanwhile, Alyssa Thomas remains tied with Caitlin Clark for the league lead in assists per game (8.9), with Natasha Cloud trailing behind at 6.5 APG for New York.
With Ionescu struggling to find her form and the Mercury on a tear right now, I&#8217;m siding with the latter in this close battle between two of the top teams in the league.

We’re officially a third of the way through the 2025 WNBA season, and the intensity is only ramping up. As stars hit their stride and rookies start to find their footing in the big leagues, there’s no shortage of storylines and action to track. Caitlin Clark is back—whether other players like it or not—Paige Bueckers is settling in, the Storm just dethroned the Lynx, and the Commissioner’s Cup Final is officially set. And yes, it’s only mid-June.
Tonight, six teams are in action: the Washington Mystics take on the Atlanta Dream, the Dallas Wings face the Connecticut Sun, and the Seattle Storm go up against the Las Vegas Aces. Saturday’s lighter slate still brings plenty of star power, with the Chicago Sky meeting the Phoenix Mercury and the Los Angeles Sparks battling the red-hot Minnesota Lynx.

The Dallas Wings snapped a seven-game losing streak behind a 20-point outing from Paige Bueckers, while the Connecticut Sun enter tonight’s matchup riding a four-game skid of their own. Though both teams have combined for just four wins through the first third of the 2025 season, this game sets the stage for another signature performance from Bueckers. 
The rookie has found her rhythm after missing time with a concussion and illness, averaging 21.4 PPG over her last five games, including a 35-point outburst in the Commissioner’s Cup. She’s also leading the league in midrange scoring (6.8 PPG)—a key stat heading into a matchup with a Sun team that ranks last in defensive rating (111.9) and defensive rebounding percentage (65.7%).
Lean: Wings ML (-205) 
With Bueckers heating up and Connecticut bleeding points and boards, I’m siding with Dallas to edge out a win behind P. Buckets. Also, DraftKings Sportsbook is offering <a href="https://sportsbook.draftkings.com/leagues/basketball/wnba?category=cross-fixture-specials&amp;subcategory=cross-fixture-specials">Cross-Fixture Player Specials today,</a> and I’m eyeing this one for my best bet:

SEA Storm at LV Aces, Friday 10:00 p.m. ET
Before we dive in, it’s important to note that reigning MVP A’ja Wilson is questionable for tonight’s matchup against the Storm after suffering a head injury. Her potential absence is huge—Wilson not only leads the Aces in points (20.9 PPG) and rebounds (9.6 RPG), but also in assists, steals, and blocks per game. Yes, you read that right—she leads in everything.
Since Wilson went down, the Aces have dropped three of their last four games, shifting the offensive burden onto Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young, and Jewell Lloyd. Young has been a bright spot amid the slump, averaging 21.5 points over her last four games, including two 28+ point performances.
Vegas will need to regroup quickly, as they’re up against a hot Seattle squad fresh off a dominant 98–67 win over the Sparks. Nneka Ogwumike led the charge with 26 points, five rebounds, and two steals, while Skylar Diggins-Smith added 15 points, shooting 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Turnovers have plagued the Aces lately—they gave up 21 turnovers leading to 27 Lynx points on Tuesday, a direct reflection of Wilson’s absence. Meanwhile, the Storm come into this game looking sharp, leading the league in field goal percentage (.473) and three-point percentage (.333), while ranking 5th in offensive rating (103.6).

LA Sparks at MIN Lynx, Saturday 8:00 p.m. ET
The Minnesota Lynx come into this one with just a single loss on the season and the Commissioner’s Cup Final bid out of the West already locked up. These teams just saw each other last Saturday, and it wasn’t exactly close—Napheesa Collier dropped 26 of her 32 points in the first half, and the Lynx cruised to a 101–78 win. Courtney Williams added 17, and Minnesota reminded everyone why they’re sitting at the top of the W—or at least next to the Liberty, depending on who you ask.
The Sparks, meanwhile, are trying to turn the page. Rickea Jackson went off for a career-high 30 points in that loss, and Kelsey Plum is still doing Kelsey Plum things, averaging 20.9 PPG this season. That said, she’s currently day-to-day with a leg injury, which is less than ideal for a team that’s already dropped four of its last five and ranks 10th in net rating (-5.5), per WNBA advanced stats. In short: it’s been a grind.
Let’s just call it what it is—Minnesota is a wagon. They’re sitting second in both offensive rating (108.4) and defensive rating (95.3), and the Sparks are giving up the third-most points per game (86.9). Unless something major shifts, I’m not stepping in front of Napheesa Collier and this Lynx team anytime soon. Ride the wave.

The 2025 <a href="https://sportsbook.draftkings.com/leagues/basketball/wnba">WNBA MVP race</a> has already seen serious movement over the past few weeks—thanks in large part to (you guessed it) Caitlin Clark’s injury. Before going down with a left quadriceps strain, Clark was the favorite at –105 on DraftKings Sportsbook. Once the Fever announced she’d miss two weeks, her odds ballooned to +240, and Napheesa Collier stepped in as the new favorite at +240. As of May 27, reigning MVP A’ja Wilson was the only other player with better than +1000 odds.
Clark’s odds drifted as high as +475 before she dropped 32 points on the Liberty on 6/14, reminding the market she’s still very much in the race. Now? Clark sits at +200, and if she stays healthy and the Fever trend upward, there’s value in locking that number in before it shortens again. But the stronger case—at least right now—is Collier.
The Lynx forward, last year’s MVP runner-up and Defensive Player of the Year, has been dominant to start 2025. She’s averaging 24.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game, leading the league in scoring and anchoring a team with just one loss on the season.

WNBA Best Bets For 6/20-6/21: Weekend Preview and WNBA MVP Odds

With the 2025 WNBA season set to begin on Friday, excitement and interest from a betting perspective have never been higher at the BetMGM <a href="https://sports.betmgm.com/en/sports">online sportsbook</a>.
After a record-setting season in 2024 as the most bet WNBA campaign at BetMGM, bettors have returned by wagering on the futures markets this preseason. Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have certainly had something to do with that.
In the <a href="https://sports.betmgm.com/en/blog/wnba/wnba-championship-odds-bm23/">WNBA championship odds</a> market, the Fever have gone from +2500 to +300 and currently hold roughly 80% of the handle. Only the New York Liberty (+225) and Las Vegas Aces (+275) have better odds to win the title.
Clark enters the year as the betting favorite (+195) to win the MVP award, giving her an implied probability of 33.9% in her second season. More than half (52.7%) of the tickets are on Clark to win the award over A’ja Wilson (+200) and Napheesa Collier (+250).
“Our futures have definitely been influenced by the popularity of the Fever/Clark,” BetMGM trader Hannah Luther said. “Contrary to last season, we think the Fever have a legitimate chance at the title. So, we are taking a bit more proactive action to mitigate our liabilities on them.”
“Clark&#8217;s odds to win MVP have also been influenced by public interest, but not nearly as much as the Fever outright,” Luther added. “We opened with her at pretty short odds, knowing she is one of the strongest players in the league.
Thanks to the increased betting interest from Clark and the Fever, BetMGM has offered more futures markets entering the 2025 season.
Indiana’s Stephanie White is a +100 favorite to win Coach of the Year in 2025, having received a majority of the money in the market. Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers is a heavy favorite (-375) to win Rookie of the Year, but she’s still received the most bets.
Wilson is a +125 favorite to win her third Defensive Player of the Year trophy over Collier (+250), who claimed last year’s DPOY. Washington Mystics forward Aaliyah Edwards is the front-runner in the Most Improved Player market at +600. Still, Seattle Storm forward Gabby Williams (+700) has become the most significant liability due to sharp betting interest.
In the Sixth Player of the Year market, Golden State Valkyries guard Tiffany Hayes begins as a favorite (+300) to repeat. But bettors are backing Dallas Wings forward Maddy Siegrist, who has +800 odds to win the award in her third season.
“Awards markets can be complex to price up,” Luther said. “Trades, draft picks, coaching changes, and sharp action all affect our odds. Betting on DPOY, 6POY, and MIP has been more varied, and those markets have attracted more sharp bets.”

Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever Pave Way for Increased WNBA Betting Interest

We have a loaded four-game slate in the WNBA this Thursday, with <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/wnba-game/lynx-wings-score-odds-june-27-2024/222441">Lynx vs. Wings</a> set to tip off the action at 1:00 p.m. ET, followed by a doubleheader on Amazon Prime Video, as <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/wnba-game/aces-sky-score-odds-june-27-2024/222443">Aces vs. Sky</a> takes center stage at 7:00 p.m. ET, and then we&#8217;ll conclude the evening with <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/wnba-game/fever-storm-score-odds-june-27-2024/222444">Fever vs. Storm</a> at 10:00 p.m. ET.

The Indiana Fever are on pace to be one of the worst defensive teams in WNBA history. During the 2020 shortened COVID season, the Fever posted a defensive rating of 111.8 points allowed per 100 possessions.
This season, Indiana has a league-worst 109.5 rating.
If we go back to Indiana’s 2020 season, it was the second-most profitable team for over-bettors with a 12-8-1 (60%) mark.
Those numbers are a blip compared to this season, as the total is 14-4 (77.8%) to the over in Fever games.
Indiana is on a four-game road trip, and its next stop will be Seattle to take on the Storm. Seattle is one of the better teams in the W, ranking fourth with a 10-6 record.
The bookmakers opened with a <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/wnba/odds">total of 166.5</a>, and that number feels short when you consider this situational spot.
In 2020, the Fever played nine games with an opening total of 166.5 or more points, and the over was 6-2-1 (75%).
Given the striking similarities between the 2020 Fever team and this current roster, the over warrants some strong consideration.

The Storm take on Caitlin Clark and the Fever today. However, I’m targeting one of the Storm’s guards in this matchup.
Skylar Diggins-Smith has a points + assists line set at 21.5, a number she’s exceeded in 56% of games this season including a combined total of 27 in her last matchup against the Fever.
Over the Fever’s last 10 games, they have the second-worst defensive rating (108.4) and are allowing the second-most opponent assists (22.7).
Considering the Storm play at one of the faster paces in the league, they should be able to speed up the Fever in this matchup where they are <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/wnba/odds">9-point favorites</a>.
I’ll back Skylar to lead the charge for the Storm tonight.

The <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/online-sports-betting/new-york">New York</a> Liberty host the Las Vegas Aces on Wednesday night at the Barclays Center, and hoo boy, a series that looked potentially dead in the water just a few days ago suddenly has mountains of intrigue.
Bettors here will likely know, but it’s worth leading with, the fact that Kiah Stokes, but much more notably Chelsea Gray, have both been ruled out for Game 4, with both players status for the series as a whole very much up in the air.
For an Aces team that rivaled any team in W history in terms of top tier talent, but also very definitively lacked in depth, this is harrowing news, and it means angles and options galore for bettors, so let’s not waste any more time.
Here&#8217;s how I&#8217;m betting the pivotal Aces vs. Liberty Game 4 matchup.

<h3>Las Vegas Aces</h3>
The loss of Gray (and Stokes) is going to hurt on both ends, but any time a team loses their point guard, the offensive impact is bound to be extreme. And in Gray, they lose a point guard who had played each and every game this season, and led the team in minutes played, due in large part to this team not really even having a backup point guard for when they were blowing teams out.
The Aces will now likely turn to Kelsey Plum to initiate the offense, with Sydney Colson potentially coming off the bench for backup point guard minutes—though she has played only 20 minutes this entire postseason to date.
It looks as though, the Aces may turn to Alysha Clark (no surprise) and Cayla George (definitely a bit of a surprise) to replace Gray and Stokes in the starting lineup (remember, they are also still without Candace Parker until further word):

That would leave the Liberty likely doing something like:
Plum — Vandersloot
Young — Laney
Clark — Ionescu
George — Stewart
Wilson — Jones
In terms of matchups. That would allow Stewart to roam on defense, where she was a menace in Game 3. It also would make things difficult for Young who struggled to shake Laney all day Sunday.
As such, if the Aces are going to close out this series in New York, it really does appear that Wilson and Plum are going to have to go bonkers — Plum because of her potential matchup, and Wilson because she is the best player on the planet. As such, if bettors are looking to bet on the Aces, I don’t hate a same game <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/education/parlay">parlay</a> of a game script going something like:
Plum 20+ points
Wilson 25+ points
Wilson 10+ rebounds
Aces <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/education/moneyline">moneyline</a>
However, I personally am going to be on the Liberty sides of things from a straight <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/education/point-spread">spread</a>/moneyline perspective.
Part of that is because the Aces offense at home versus at Barclays just hasn’t been the same this season, and they were coming into Game 3 looking to regress potentially anyways, based on their crazy shooting numbers we talked about before Game 3. Because of that, I am going back to the well with a play Maria Marino cooked up for us on the Buckets podcast and hit for Game 3: Aces team <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/education/over-under-total">total</a> under.
The line is now at 82.5, but with the shooting regression that came, alongside Gray being out, I even like the alt under available for this line at <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/online-sports-betting/reviews/caesars-sportsbook">Caesars</a>: under 75.5 +222.
If things get out of control early, Becky Hammon may well pack things in and save her now Big Three for potentially having to play all 40 minutes in a home Game 5.

<h3>New York Liberty</h3>
I came into this series with the Liberty as very slight favorites over the Aces on a neutral court. As such, I’d have made the Liberty -3.5 for the home games in the series. After Games 1 and 2 were decided in such pr0-Las Vegas fashion, however, I was a bit spooked, but watching Game 3, it’s clear Liberty -3.5 at home would have been a very fair line. Even before Chelsea Gray went down, the Liberty were leading, 69-61, in the fourth quarter, and had led most of what was a close game.
As such, if we work off of Liberty -3.5 as the baseline, Gray and Stokes being out — on a team with decidedly little depth — gets me to around Liberty -8. There is still a -4.5 in the market at <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/online-sports-betting/reviews/pointsbet">PointsBet</a>, but I also quite like the Liberty to win by double digits (around +200 most books), or even -14.5 +325 at <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/online-sports-betting/reviews/draftkings">DraftKings</a>.
As for which players to look at on the Liberty, it likely depends on if George is indeed getting the start. If so, I’d imagine something like this:
Sloot — George
Ionescu — Plum
Laney — Young
Stewart — Clark
Jones — Wilson
It actually isn’t a terrible defensive lineup for the Aces, as Sloot has simply not been able to punish the Aces for basically ignoring her all series. But it does put a ton of pressure of A’ja and Alysha to clean the glass, since part of starting George is to get her height, but if she is guarding Sloot (shout out to Calvin Wetzel for seeing this potential defensive lineup), she’s not going to be near the basket as much.

<h3>Aces-Liberty Pick</h3>
This is such a fun game to preview because of all the different ways it could go. The Aces don’t have a confirmed starting five as of writing, but some snooping can lead us to assume George and Clark will be the two new additions.
With all that considered, the favorite play is Aces team total under 81.5, and the alt under 77.5 +222 at Caesars. I also like Liberty -14.5 +325 (we have talked about the snowballing effect between these two teams a lot and Wednesday feels primed for it more than ever).
I’m going to add Breanna Stewart over 10.5 rebounds here due to her likely matchup and her success on the boards the last few games. Finally, if the books give out Kelsey Plum assists, I would take over 5.5.

Jonquel Jones smashed over 16.5 points with 27, but A&#8217;ja Wilson squeaked by her over of 10.5 rebounds, finishing with 11 to crush my under bet.
Chelsea Gray, who is now out with a foot injury, seemed potentially on her way to going over 15.5 points but got to 11 before the setback. (Kiah Stokes is also out in Game 4 due to a foot injury.)
So a long overdue semi-slump has activated, which we&#8217;ll look to break in Game 4 with these three player prop bets between the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces.

<h3>Jackie Young Over 19.5 Points (-113 | FanDuel)</h3>

Jackie Young will have the biggest scoring bump with Chelsea Gray out.
It&#8217;s very easy to say A&#8217;ja Wilson might have the biggest scoring bump, but with her point total at 23.5 points, I&#8217;m just not quite there, even without the Aces&#8217; starting point guard.
Gray is a real facilitator who sets up Wilson beautifully and regularly. Gray being out means that Wilson will now need to get the ball from Kelsey Plum, likely the de facto point guard, and it also means that the New York Liberty could tighten their attention on Wilson, even as Alysha Clark spaces the floor as a shooter &#8212; but not a creator.
There&#8217;s one instance this season where one of Plum, Wilson, Gray or Young were out &#8212; an Aces 89-82 win over the Dallas Wings on July 5. Plum sat, Wilson shot 6-for-18, getting 22 points thanks to a 10-of-12 display from deep, and Young erupted for 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting.
It may not look like it in the Finals, but Wilson has quietly <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/wnba/should-you-fade-aja-wilson-in-the-wnba-finals">struggled against the Liberty</a> in most of their eight matchups.
Young, like most of her teammates, was off in Game 3 as she made just two of her nine field goals. However, she has otherwise been lights out this series, scoring 24 and 26 points in the first two games on a combined 18-of-31 from the field and 8-of-15 from 3.
Young also might play 40 minutes, so expect the volume, and hopefully some efficiency, to get to 20 points.

<h3>Sabrina Ionescu to Score 15+ Points (+108 | FanDuel)</h3>

I&#8217;m buying low on Sabrina Ionescu, who is still struggling from the field but should breathe easier against the shorthanded Las Vegas Aces.
Ionescu has been very inconsistent in the playoffs, but this seems like a good spot for her ceiling to rise.
Without Gray, Ionescu should have cleaner looks on the perimeter, and even though she finished with nine points in Game 3, she did shoot well from deep, going 3-for-7.
In the playoffs, she&#8217;s down from 17.0 points per game to just 13.8, and her shooting has dropped from over 42% to 39%. She was about 45% from 3 during the regular season but has dropped to a solid 40% in the playoffs. Additionally, Ionescu&#8217;s lack of volume is more to blame than anything else; she&#8217;s down from 13 to 11 field goal attempts per game in the playoffs.
Ultimately, we&#8217;re buying the dip with Gray and Stokes gone. Ionescu has scored 15 points exactly zero times in her last four games, her longest such streak in the season. Beforehand, she eclipsed the mark three times in her first five playoff games and in 10 out of 12 to end the regular season.

<h3>Jonquel Jones Over 10.5 Rebounds (-113 | FanDuel)</h3>

Once again, we like Jonquel Jones, but this time I&#8217;m playing her rebounds in another buy-the-dip situation.
Jones finished Game 3 with just eight boards and grabbed 10 in each of the first two games of the series, but this was one of the most reliable overs to start the postseason.
Before the WNBA Finals, Jones snagged 11 or more rebounds in all six of her playoff appearances. Now, the Aces will be missing Stokes, their second-best rebounder, which pits more stress on Wilson, whom Jones has matched up against quite well this series.
