What’s Trending: July 20

With so much #SummerHoops to take in this season, it’s hard to keep track of all of the storylines that will play out on a nightly basis this WNBA season. That’s what What’s Trending is for.

Here’s What’s Trending on July 20, 2015:

#NBASummer: Hammon Guides Spurs To Summer League Final

Becky Hammon made headlines recently as the first female head coach at NBA Las Vegas Summer League. And now, after a week of coaching, she’s poised to make even more. Hammon helped guide the Summer Spurs to the NBA Las Vegas Summer League final against the Phoenix Suns.

You can catch the game Monday at 9 p.m. on NBATV.

#MayaMoore: Reigning MVP Puts Together Big Weekend

Maya Moore and the Minnesota Lynx have been the best team in the Western Conference heading into the All-Star break. Moore has quietly been working her way back into MVP form after a bit of a slow start to the season, by her standards. This past weekend, she outdueled Elena Delle Donne, scoring 29 points and helping Minnesota to an 84-66 win. But perhaps her best performance of the season came on Sunday when she poured in 30 points in the second half to help Minnesota top Tulsa.

#BlockParty: Stokes Swats 8 Shots

New York Liberty rookie Kiah Stokes has been a defensive force during her first year in the league. She’s tied for the league lead in blocks (41) and has quickly earned a reputation as one of the best shot blockers in the league.

On Thursday, the Liberty hosted the Connecticut Sun, and Stokes set a Liberty record with 8 blocked shots. Her performance defensively in the second half helped guide the Liberty to a 67-54 win.

#DelleDonne: EDD Scores 29, Sky Beat San Antonio

Elena Delle Donne has been scoring at a historic pace so far this season, leading the league in points per game and topping the Race to MVP list since the season started. After a few sub-par games, Delle Donne got back on track with a 29-point performance on Sunday. EDD shot 13-of-23 from the field and pulled down 13 rebounds in the Sky’s 93-82 win over San Antonio. But perhaps the most shocking part of her statline was what wasn’t there. Delle Donne didn’t take a single free throw, the first time this season she didn’t make it to the charity stripe.

#CatchingsHonored: Tamika Catchings Presented With Sports Humanitarian Of The Year Award

Tamika Catchings has already made history this season by moving into third on the WNBA’s all-time rebounding list. She earned her 10th All-Star selection, which is more than any other player in league history.

But off the court Catchings is also making history. She was recently named the first-ever Sports Humanitarian of the Year by ESPN and Playstation.
