#NBASummer: Hammon Makes NBA Head Coaching Debut

WNBA great Becky Hammon made her head coaching debut Saturday with the San Antonio Spurs summer league team in Las Vegas.  Spurs head coach Greg Popovich gave Hammon the head coaching duties earlier this summer, and she’s using it as an opportunity to learn on the fly in an expanded role.

The Spurs were 1-1 in NBA Las Vegas Summer League through the weekend, with Hammon’s team knocking off the Bucks Sunday night.

#LynxAtSky: Maya Moore Takes On Elena Delle Donne

Two of the best players in the WNBA faced off against each other for the first time this season on Friday night. Maya Moore and the Minnesota Lynx traveled east to take on Elena Delle Donne’s surging Sky.

Maya Moore put up a performance similar to the ones that earned her 2014 WNBA MVP honors, scoring 29 points on 11-of-23 shooting. She added 10 rebounds and 6 assists.

But in the end it was Delle Donne and the Sky – paced by EDD’s 24 points – who came out on top.

#WinningStreaks: Teams Begin To Hit Their Stride

The WNBA season is well underway and a number of teams have started to click and have put together impressive winnings streaks. The Phoenix Mercury, led by the return of Brittney Griner, have moved to 8-5 on the year after five consecutive wins. Oh, and Brittney Griner has 21 blocks through those five wins and 23 on the season.

Stephanie White’s Indiana Fever team has also found the mark on both ends of the floor and have won four straight games. They’re getting contributions from a host of players and have benefited from the play of Natalie Achonwa, WNBA Rookie of the Month for June.

Elena Delle Donne and the Chicago Sky have won three straight games and are locked in a tie for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The tandem of Allie Quigley, Cappie Pondexter and Elena Delle Donne has guided the Sky to an 8-5 record and the top-rated offense in the league.

#JackiGemelos: Sky’s Jacki Gemelos Scores First WNBA Points

Overcoming one ACL injury is impressive enough, which makes describing what Jacki Gemelos has endured that much harder. The Chicago Sky guard has overcome 5 – yes, 5 – ACL injuries since her senior year of high school.

Now, she’s living out her dream of playing in the WNBA, and on Sunday she scored the first points of her WNBA career.

#USA: Liberty Players Attend Ticker-Tape Parade for #USWNT

The U.S. women’s national team won the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup and have since been on a bit of a celebration tour. On Friday, the team was welcomed to NYC with a ticker-tape parade.

New York Liberty players Tanisha Wright and Carolyn Swords were on hand to congratulate the team and show their support for the United States national team.
