WNBA Third-All Time Leading Scorer Returns for 17th Season and 12th with Phoenix
 
PHOENIX – The Phoenix Mercury have re-signed two-time WNBA Champion DeWanna Bonner.
&#8220;Having DeWanna back in a Mercury uniform is incredibly meaningful to our organization,” said General Manager Nick U&#8217;Ren. “She brings a championship mindset, elite skillset and the kind of leadership that defines winning teams.&#8221;
Bonner, a 16-year WNBA veteran, returns to the Mercury for her 12th season with the team – the second-most in franchise history behind only Diana Taurasi’s 20 seasons. The 6-4 wing signed with the Mercury midway through the 2025 season after playing the previous five seasons (2019-24) with the Connecticut Sun. Bonner spent the first 10 years of her career with Phoenix (2009-16, 2018-19), where she helped bring two WNBA Championships to the Valley in 2009 and 2014. She is a six-time WNBA All-Star (2015, 2018-19, 2021, 2023-24), two-time All-WNBA selection (2015, 2020), All-Defensive Second Team selection (2015), the league’s only three-time Sixth Player of the Year (2009-11) and ranks third on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list.
Last season with the Mercury, Bonner averaged 10.9 points and 4.3 rebounds in 24 games (1 start), leading all WNBA reserves in points (10.6) and steals (0.9) per game (minimum 25 games played) during the 2025 season. Bonner had three 20+ point games as reserve, tied for third most in the league, and ranked second with seven 15+ point efforts. In just her third game back with Phoenix, she posted 22 points and 11 rebounds — her WNBA-record fifth career 20/10 game as a reserve.
Originally selected fifth overall in the 2009 WNBA Draft by the Mercury, Bonner holds career averages of 14.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 535 games (403 starts). She is currently third in WNBA history in points (7,807), games played (535) and free throws made (1,938), fourth in minutes played (16,028), sixth in field goals made (2,603), eighth in rebounds (3,204) and steals (631), and 10th in three-point field goals made (663). Bonner joins Tamika Catchings and Tina Charles as the only players in WNBA history to reach 7,000 points, 3,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists in their careers. She ranks second in Mercury history in games and minutes played, steals, three-point makes, free-throw makes and double-doubles, and third in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and field goals made.

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Mercury have re-signed four-time WNBA All-Star Kahleah Copper.
&#8220;Kahleah is a true leader, on and off the court, one of the most explosive athletes in our game and competes with a relentless edge and toughness,&#8221; said Mercury General Manager Nick U’Ren. “Her impact on both ends of the court and ability to deliver in the biggest moments make her truly special.”
Copper earned four consecutive WNBA All-Star selections from 2021-2024, was named to the All-WNBA Second Team in 2024 and captured WNBA Finals MVP honors in 2021. The 10-year WNBA veteran now enters her third season in Phoenix, after helping lead the Mercury to the WNBA Finals in 2025.
Last season, Copper averaged 15.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals in 28 games. The 6-1 wing was one of six players in the league (minimum 20 games) to average at least 15 points and two made three-pointers per game, joining Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard, Sabrina Ionescu, Kelsey Mitchell and Kelsey Plum. Despite missing 16 games due to injury, Copper recorded five games with at least four three-pointers, just one shy of her 2023 career best.
Copper is the fastest player in Mercury history to reach 1,000 points, doing so in just 51 games. With 10 30-point games for Phoenix, she has tied DeWanna Bonner for the third most in franchise history, behind only Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner. In 2024, she ranked third in the WNBA in scoring, finishing with 782 points – the third-highest single-season total in Mercury history after Taurasi’s 2006 and 2008 campaigns. Copper made WNBA history in 2024, becoming the first player to score 37+ points in back-to-back games.
The North Philadelphia native holds career averages of 12.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists across 319 games. She has won gold medals with Team USA at the 2022 FIBA World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics, scoring a team-high 10 points in the fourth quarter of the Olympic gold medal game.

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Mercury have re-signed Alyssa Thomas, 2025 MVP finalist and All-WNBA and All-Defensive First Team selection.
&#8220;Alyssa is a generational player, natural leader and one of the fiercest competitors our sport has seen, and we’re excited to have her back in Phoenix,” said Mercury General Manager Nick U’Ren. &#8220;Her ability to control the game on both ends and elevate her teammates helped fuel our run to the Finals last season.&#8221;
Thomas is a six-time WNBA All-Star (2017, 2019, 2022-25), four-time All-WNBA selection (2022-25), seven-time WNBA All-Defensive Team selection (2017, 2019-20, 2022-25) and the league’s all-time leader in regular season (19) and playoff (6) triple-doubles. The 12-year WNBA veteran has finished in the top five in MVP voting in each of the last four seasons, including a top-three finish in 2025 with the Mercury.
In her first season with Phoenix, Thomas earned All-Star, All-WNBA First Team and All-Defensive First Team honors, joining Brittney Griner as the only players in franchise history to earn all three accolades in the same season. Over 39 games, she averaged 15.4 points on a career-high 53.2 field-goal percentage (6th in WNBA), a career-high 9.2 assists (1st), 8.8 rebounds (3rd) and 1.6 steals (5th). Thomas became the first player in WNBA history to average 15+ points, 8+ rebounds, 9+ assists and 1+ steals while shooting 50%+ from the field, a feat only accomplished in the NBA by legends Magic Johnson, LeBron James and Nikola Jokić.
During her historic 2025 campaign, Thomas recorded a WNBA single-season record eight triple-doubles, eclipsing her previous mark of six in 2023. Her eight triple-doubles were more than the rest of the league combined, while her 23 double-doubles tied for the league lead and established a new franchise single-season record.
The 6-2 forward broke the WNBA single-season assists record with 357, surpassing Caitlin Clark’s 337 in 2024, and set a franchise single-season rebounds record with 344. She became the first player in WNBA history to tally 300+ assists in three seasons (2023-25), and her 892 assisted points are the most ever in single season. Thomas also set WNBA single-season records for games with 10+ assists (16) and 15+ assists (5), broke the franchise single-game record with 16 assists, and became the first player in league history to record 15+ rebounds and 15+ assists in a game.
Thomas is the WNBA’s all-time leader in playoff assists (410), ranks seventh in regular-season assists (1,820), and has averaged 12.5 points on 48.9% shooting, 7.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.6 steals over 358 career games. She has won gold medals with Team USA at both the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2022 FIBA World Cup.

Charles will look to extend her lead as the WNBA&#8217;s All-Time leading rebounder in the 2026 season.
