The Phoenix Mercury rode a determined Brittney Griner on both sides of the court to beat the Atlanta Dream, 65-58, and clinch the final spot in the WNBA Western Conference playoffs.
The Mercury’s defense, backed by Griner’s long arms, held the Dream to 26 percent shooting from the floor, leading wire-to-wire for the win.
Griner scored 21 points and grabbed eight boards in the win. Forward DeWanna Bonner added nine points and eight rebounds. Diana Taurasi, still working her way back into game form after missing most of the season with an injury, went scoreless but notched seven assists.
