Renee Montgomery Named 2012 WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year presented by Boost Mobile

NEW YORK, Sept. 27, 2012 � Connecticut Sun guard Renee Montgomery is the winner of the 2012 WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year presented by Boost Mobile, the league announced today. Montgomery received 23 votes from a national panel of 41 sportswriters and broadcasters to earn the award. San Antonio Silver Stars teammates forward/center Danielle Adams (nine) and guard Jia Perkins (six) placed second and third, respectively.

The honor marked the first time in four seasons in the league that Montgomery was named the league�s top Sixth Woman.

In honor of being named the Sixth Woman of the Year presented by Boost Mobile, Montgomery will receive $5,000 and a specially-designed trophy from Tiffany & Co.

In 34 games this season, Montgomery averaged 11.6 points, 3.4 assists and shot .848 from the free throw line. Known for her energetic play, she also ranked second on the Sun in three categories � three point percentage (.364), assists (2.6 apg) and blocks (0.9 bpg)

Montgomery recorded nine 15-point games this season and scored in the double digits on 23 occasions. She tied her career-high five steals on June 8 at Indiana and posted a season-high 25 points on Sept. 7 against Phoenix.

A standout at the University of Connecticut, Montgomery was drafted fourth overall by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2009 WNBA Draft. A �Huskies of Honor� inductee and three-time All-Big East First Team selection, Montgomery led the Huskies to a 138-11 record during her four-year tenure, which included an NCAA National Championship, two trips to the NCAA Women�s Final Four and four Big East regular season titles. Montgomery left Connecticut as the only player in program history to rank in the top 10 in points (1,977), assists (626), steals (266) and three-pointers (251).
