The second round of the 2025 WNBA Playoffs has been both action-packed and highly competitive, with each series knotted at 1-1 heading into two big Game 3 matchups on Friday.
The Minnesota Lynx took care of business in Game 1 on Sunday against the Phoenix Mercury but dropped Game 2 in overtime at home, marking just their third home loss of the entire season. On the other side of the playoff bracket, the banged-up Indiana Fever stole Game 1 on Sunday against the Las Vegas Aces but struggled to match the energy in Game 2, losing by 22 points.

The Favorite: MIN Lynx (-140)
The Lynx (-140) entered the postseason as the favorites, and continue to lead in terms of odds after sweeping the Golden State Valkyries in the first round. Minnesota played good basketball in Game 1 at home versus Phoenix, winning 82-69, but fell short in overtime of Game 2, thanks to forced turnovers and superb bench play from the Mercury. Still, the Lynx entered the postseason ranked first in both offensive (109.5) and defensive rating (97.5), and are a deep and hungry squad built to win their first championship since 2017.
The Aces (+200) have long held the second-shortest odds to win the Finals, thanks to otherworldly MVP-level play from A&#8217;ja Wilson, who posted 25 points, nine rebounds and five steals in Tuesday&#8217;s blowout win over the Fever. Jackie Young has contributed meaningfully, too, averaging 16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in the semi-finals round thus far.

Las Vegas Aces at Indiana Fever — Friday, September 26, 7:30 p.m. ET
Both the Aces and Fever have split the first two games of the series in opposite fashion. Indiana topped Las Vegas, 89-73, in Game 1, thanks to elite guard play from Kelsey Mitchell (34 points on 12-of-23 shooting) and a poor shooting night from A&#8217;ja Wilson (16 points on 6-of-22 shooting). Las Vegas is no stranger to the postseason, however, as it bounced back with a 22-point win in Game 2, which was backed by points off turnovers and strong bench play. Five different Aces posted double-digit points, and when Mitchell isn&#8217;t getting buckets like usual, the Fever struggle to find offensive consistency.
While Las Vegas is the superior squad, Friday&#8217;s Game 3 matchup may come down to who has the hotter hand –– Wilson or Mitchell? The series will shift to Indiana for the next two games, which should give the Fever a small edge, but I&#8217;m still leaning toward the Aces to cover on the road. On the other side of things, Mitchell leads the Fever in both usage rate and field goal attempts per game –– she will look to correct her poor shooting performance from Game 2 and give her team a chance to take the series lead.

Minnesota Lynx at Phoenix Mercury — Friday, September 26, 9:30 p.m. ET
While this series hasn&#8217;t nearly been as up-and-down as the Fever vs. Aces series, these two teams enter Game 3 with one win apiece. The No. 1-seeded Lynx came out on top in Game 1 with an 82-69 win, which was backed by Minnesota&#8217;s big three –– Napheesa Collier, Courtney Williams and Kayla McBride, its only double-digit scorers of the night. Phoenix may be one of the few teams that can keep up with Minnesota on both sides of the ball, and that was evident in its 89-83 overtime win in Game 2. The Lynx may have dominated the first half, but the Mercury made necessary adjustments and outscored the Lynx, 47-31, in the second half, including 10-4 in the overtime period.
This sets up a big Game 3 matchup on Friday in Phoenix. The Mercury&#8217;s offensive and defensive ratings rise slightly when playing at home, and the Lynx&#8217;s ratings fall slightly when playing on the road. Phoenix has home-court advantage and has beaten Minnesota twice this season, but one second-half collapse from the Lynx shouldn&#8217;t deter the public from backing them.. Alyssa Thomas, meanwhile, is coming off a historic season and hasn&#8217;t missed a step in either the scoring or playmaking department, averaging 17.2 points and 9.2 assists per game this postseason.

Minnesota opened with a 101–72 blowout over Golden State before facing real resistance in Game 2, when the Valkyries built a 17-point lead in the third quarter. But the Lynx showed why they’re the top seed, powering back in the fourth with the balance, depth, and relentlessness that has defined their season to secure the sweep. Backed by the league’s best offense and defense, Minnesota looks every bit like a team built for another championship run.
The Aces (+170), meanwhile, remain right in the hunt. A’ja Wilson is playing beyond MVP level, pouring in nearly 40 points in Thursday’s elimination win. Jackie Young is averaging 21.5 points this postseason, while Jewell Lloyd continues to light it up as a scoring threat of her own.

WNBA Best Bets and Weekend Preview
New York Liberty at Phoenix Mercury — Friday, September 19th, 9:00 PM ET
The Liberty and Mercury split the first two games in very different fashion. New York escaped with a 76-69 overtime win in Game 1 behind big nights from Natasha Cloud and Breanna Stewart, though turnovers nearly cost them late. Phoenix answered in Game 2, dominating from the second quarter on and rolling to an 86-60 win as Alyssa Thomas, Satou Sabally, Kahleah Copper, DeWanna Bonner, and Kathryn Westbeld all hit double figures. Stewart’s lingering knee issue was evident, and New York’s offense never found a rhythm.
That sets up a decisive Game 3 on Friday in New York. I’m leaning toward the Mercury here — their balanced scoring, defensive intensity, and ability to ride momentum from their hot shooting in Game 2 give them the edge. On the other side, I’m fading Breanna Stewart; her knee looks too limiting for New York to overcome in a win-or-go-home spot. With Phoenix surging and New York searching for answers, the Mercury feel like the better play to advance.

Indiana Fever at Las Vegas Aces — Sunday, September 21st, 3 PM ET
The Indiana Fever showed grit in their first-round series with Atlanta, bouncing back from a rough Game 1 to dominate Game 2 behind Aliyah Boston’s inside presence and Kelsey Mitchell’s scoring. Mitchell stayed hot with 24 points in Game 3, while Boston’s go-ahead bucket sealed the upset and gave Indiana its first playoff series win in a decade. A tough Round 2 matchup now awaits.
The Aces punched their ticket to the semis with a thrilling 74–73 Game 3 win over Seattle, capped by Jackie Young’s clutch putback with 12 seconds left. A’ja Wilson has been unstoppable, averaging 29.3 points and 8.6 rebounds in Round 1, highlighted by a 38-point Game 3. Young’s consistency — double figures in 12 straight games — combined with Chelsea Gray’s playmaking and Wilson’s dominance makes Las Vegas a daunting opponent for anyone.
With the Aces proving to be dominant at home, I&#8217;m leaning towards the two-time champs to pull out a Game 1 W on Sunday.

<h2>WNBA Playoff Picture</h2>
The No. 1 seed in the 2025 playoffs belongs to the Minnesota Lynx, and it’s no surprise. After finishing 34-10 and locking up the top spot on August 30, they roll into the postseason with elite defense, depth, and 5x All-Star Napheesa Collier leading the charge. Minnesota has held firm as the DraftKings Sportsbook favorite since overtaking the defending champion Liberty in mid-August, and they haven’t looked back. Still, plenty of movement has shaken up the WNBA Finals odds. More on that below.
The No. 2 seed belongs to (and I say this with full enthusiasm) the Las Vegas Aces. Closing the regular season on a 16-game tear, the two-time champs have surged into second place behind the unstoppable play of reigning MVP and current -550 favorite A’ja Wilson. At 29, Wilson is leading the league in points (23.4), rebounds (10.2), and blocks (2.3) per game, and over her last 10 she’s been even more dominant, averaging 26.9 points, 10.7 boards, and 2.9 blocks. That’s elite status, plain and simple.
The No. 3 seed goes to the Atlanta Dream, who wrapped the regular season at 30-14. Built on tough, defense-first basketball, they thrive on turning stops into transition buckets and have the weapons to pressure any top seed. Rhyne Howard paces the scoring while Allisha Gray adds two-way versatility, and with Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones holding it down inside, this squad’s athleticism and depth give them real sleeper value in the 2025 playoff field.

Longer Odds: Atlanta Dream (+1100) — The Dream closed the season strong to secure their playoff spot and enter the postseason with momentum on their side. First-year head coach Karl Smesko has them playing faster with better spacing, creating a perimeter-heavy attack that keeps defenses guessing. With Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard lighting it up on the wing and Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones anchoring the paint, Atlanta has the balance to surprise and make a deep run.

2025 WNBA Playoffs Picture: Odds on DraftKings Sportsbook

The Minnesota Lynx enter the 2025 WNBA playoffs as the clear betting favorites to win the championship.
Minnesota is a +105 favorite at the BetMGM <a href="https://sports.betmgm.com/en/sports">online sportsbook</a>, meaning it has an implied probability of 48.78% to win the title. At these odds, a $10 bet would net a $10.50 profit if the Lynx won the WNBA Finals.
The Lynx, who suffered a 3-2 series loss to the New York Liberty in last year’s WNBA Finals, started the season with the fourth-best odds of winning it all. They were +400 in mid-May, trailing the Liberty (+225), Las Vegas Aces (+275), and Indiana Fever (+300).
Minnesota has been the best team in the league all year, getting off to a 9-0 start before eventually claiming the No. 1 overall seed by a comfortable margin. However, the Lynx didn’t pass the Liberty as <a href="https://sports.betmgm.com/en/blog/wnba/wnba-championship-odds-bm23/">WNBA championship odds</a> favorites until August.
At their current odds, the Lynx will begin the postseason as bigger championship favorites than the Liberty were at this time last year. New York started Round 1 with a +120 price tag of winning the title. Las Vegas, meanwhile, was -145 to win the championship at the start of the 2023 playoffs.
The Liberty and Aces begin as the biggest threats to the Lynx’s first championship since 2017. Both teams are trading at +350, giving them an implied probability of 22.22%. 
As the No. 5 seed, New York would have to face Minnesota in the semifinals. The Aces wouldn’t have to face the Lynx until the WNBA Finals, as they are on opposite sides of the bracket.
New York won its first title in franchise history last year, but has dealt with multiple injuries in its encore season. The Aces, who won the championship in 2022 and 2023, are the hottest team in the league ahead of the playoffs after making a change to their starting lineup.
The Atlanta Dream and Phoenix Mercury have been the biggest risers in the championship market after both teams started with a 40/1 value in the preseason. Atlanta is +800, while Phoenix comes in at +1600.
Rounding out the playoff picture, the Seattle Storm (+4000), Golden State Valkyries (+12500), and Indiana Fever (+20000) are all considered long shots to win it all.
This year’s postseason will begin on Sunday, with Game 1 of all four Round 1 matchups slated to take place.

Backed by the league’s top offensive and defensive ratings, the Lynx secured the No. 1 seed with authority and continue to prove their dominance by winning seven of their last 10 contests.
With Napheesa Collier anchoring their attack, a defense capable of shutting down any opponent, and the depth to wear teams down, Minnesota stands as the undeniable frontrunner to capture the championship.

Los Angeles Sparks at Atlanta Dream — Friday, September 5th, 7:30 PM ET
With the Atlanta Dream already locked into the postseason, all the pressure shifts to the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday. The Sparks have dropped five of their last 10 — including an 86–75 loss to Atlanta in their last matchup — and find themselves scrambling on the playoff bubble. In that game, Dearica Hamby dropped 21 points and nine boards while Kelsey Plum added 18 points and seven assists, but the Sparks couldn’t match the Dream’s depth. Rhyne Howard poured in 19, Brionna Jones notched her 12th double-double, and five Atlanta players finished in double figures.
Atlanta brings the league’s second-best offensive rating into a matchup with Los Angeles’ shaky defense, ranked fourth-worst overall and prone to giving up clean looks from deep. Unless the Sparks find defensive consistency in a hurry, the Dream are poised to make it two straight, and I&#8217;m liking Howard to lead the charge from beyond the arc.

New York Liberty at Seattle Storm — Friday, September 5th, 10:00 PM ET
It’s been anything but smooth sailing for the Liberty this season, with injuries derailing the reigning champions and stars missing extended stretches — the latest setback being Sabrina Ionescu’s absence. Without her steady scoring presence, New York has dropped two straight, including a rough 66–58 loss to the Golden State Valkyries. While they&#8217;ve still officially clinched a playoff spot, the Liberty have their work cut out for them as the playoffs near.
Up next is Seattle, a team that’s been wildly inconsistent down the stretch, beating Finals favorite Minnesota 93–79 one night, then coughing up a 17-point lead to fall 91–85 against Los Angeles two games later. If the Storm can close the season with back-to-back wins, they’ll hit the postseason at .500 and with momentum. Thomas has been nothing short of electric, racking up a league-record seven triple-doubles while stuffing the stat sheet on a nightly basis, and the Mercury’s surge has pushed them into the top three in the standings. Fresh off a 75–69 win over the Mystics, they head into Saturday with a prime chance to keep the streak alive against a fading Connecticut team. 
The Sun are already out of the playoff picture, stuck near the bottom of the standings with the league’s worst offensive rating (96.2) and third-worst defensive rating (108.8). This is exactly the kind of matchup Phoenix should dominate, and with a playoff spot already locked up, I expect the Mercury to treat the rest of the season as chemistry and momentum building reps.

Dallas Wings at Atlanta Dream — Friday, August 29, 7:30 PM ET
The Atlanta Dream enter the weekend looking to rebound after falling to the red-hot Las Vegas Aces, who have ripped off 12 straight wins. Rhyne Howard and Brionna Jones each dropped 19 points in that loss, but Atlanta has now failed to crack 80 points in five straight contests despite still owning the third-best offensive rating in the league (106.4).
The Dallas Wings, meanwhile, are trending in the opposite direction, dropping six in a row and 11 of their last 12, sliding to the bottom of the standings. Scoring hasn’t been their issue, but their second-worst defense — especially in transition — continues to sink them. That’s a suboptimal matchup against an Atlanta team that thrives when they can get out and run.
From a betting perspective, this feels like a spot where the Dream should control the pace and cover. Look for Allisha Gray (18.8 PPG, 38.8% from three) to shine in a revenge game against her former team, making her scoring props an intriguing angle alongside a play on Atlanta against the spread.

The Lynx have not only separated from the pack but dominated it, sitting first in the league at 26-7 and 5.5 games clear of their closest challenger, Atlanta. They’ve beaten the defending champion New York Liberty three times this season, continue to own the best offense and defense in the league, and have done it all without MVP front-runner Napheesa Collier. 
With a playoff berth already secured, Minnesota continues to prove they’re the most formidable opponent in the postseason. A balanced roster built on elite scoring, suffocating defense, and veteran leadership has carried them this far, and Collier’s return will only make them more dangerous.

Seattle Storm at Dallas Wings — Friday, August 22, 7:30 PM ET
Dallas knew what it was getting when it drafted Paige “Ms. Buckets” Bueckers No. 1 overall, and she delivered in a big way with 44 points against the Sparks, tying Cynthia Cooper’s 28-year-old rookie scoring record. Still, the 9-27 Wings couldn’t close, losing 81-80 and have officially been bounced from playoff contention. 
They now face a Seattle team that’s stumbled of late, dropping seven of its last ten to fall back to .500, though veterans Skylar Diggins and Nneka Ogwumike helped notch a crucial win over Chicago earlier this week. Offensively, both teams rank near the bottom (Dallas 9th, Seattle 8th in offensive rating), but the Storm hold the edge defensively. With Ezi Magbegor holding down the paint (2.1 BPG), Gabby Williams locking down the perimeter (2.4 SPG), and the team holding opponents to 80.1 points per game (5th), Seattle has the talent to rewrite the ship 
With their playoff lives on the line, the Storm are the safer lean tonight. That said, Bueckers proving she’s a bucket every night? I’m backing that, too.

Even without MVP front-runner Napheesa Collier, the Lynx have looked like a well-oiled machine, leaning on their depth and a next-player-up mentality to go 4-2 in her absence. After being taken down Thursday by a surging Atlanta Dream, Minnesota now faces an Indiana Fever team that has been hit hard by injuries. Sophie Cunningham is out for the season with a torn MCL — the third Fever guard lost in just two weeks — while Caitlin Clark remains sidelined with a bone bruise suffered on August 7.
Still, the Fever have managed to win six of their last 10 and currently sit sixth in the league standings, with Golden State and Seattle close behind. The challenge Friday is steep: the Lynx remain the championship favorite, boasting both the league’s best defense (96.7 rating) and best offense (109.7 rating) even without Collier on the floor. With their depth, consistency, and proven ability to handle adversity, Minnesota has the edge to overpower an injury-riddled Fever squad tonight.

Talk about a matchup. The Dream have surged into second place behind Minnesota, winning eight of their last 10 and edging out the Finals-favorite Lynx 75-73 on Thursday. The Liberty, meanwhile, continue to stumble without Breanna Stewart — just 5-5 over their last 10 — showing lapses in fundamentals. While they’re only allowing 81.7 points per game, New York leads the league in opponent rebounds (36.4), saw their defensive rating balloon to 110.9 at a point in August, and remains plagued by turnovers. 
Allisha Gray has been on fire, averaging 18 points per game over her last 10 and dropping 27 against the league’s top defense in her last outing. With New York’s defense slipping, Gray looks primed for another big performance. I’m backing her to light it up again Saturday afternoon.

WNBA Best Bets for August 22: Weekend Preview and WNBA Champion Odds

The WNBA MVP race could be heating back up during the final weeks of the 2025 regular season.
Since late May, Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier has been the betting favorite to win MVP at the BetMGM <a href="https://sports.betmgm.com/en/sports">online sportsbook</a>. She remains a -325 favorite, giving her an implied probability of 76.47%, despite being out for more than two weeks with an ankle injury.
While Collier has missed the past five games for Minnesota, a pair of contenders have started to apply pressure on her in this race. 
Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson is second in the latest <a href="https://sports.betmgm.com/en/blog/wnba/wnba-mvp-odds-prediction-bm23/">WNBA MVP odds</a> with a price tag of +450, giving her an implied probability of 18.18%. Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas is +600, which suggests an implied probability of 14.29%.
No other player is listed better than 150/1 to win the award at BetMGM. Only six options are remaining in this market.
Collier’s case could be the easiest, assuming she’s able to return to action soon. She’s the best player on the best team in the league. Minnesota is 6.5 games clear of anyone else with a 28-6 overall record.
After finishing as a runner-up in last year’s MVP race, Collier leads the league with an average of 23.5 points per game while shooting 53.7% from the floor. She’s played 26 contests this year, averaging 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game.
Wilson has recently emerged as Collier’s primary challenger after scoring 30-plus points in three consecutive games. She’s led the Aces (22-14) to eight wins in a row, as they have surged to fifth in the WNBA standings.
Wilson, who won last year’s award over Collier, is trying to become the first player in WNBA history to win four MVP awards, averaging 22.9 points, 10 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.2 blocks in 32 games.
Thomas has remained in the mix throughout her first season with the Mercury, who sit fourth in the updated WNBA playoff picture at 21-13. She’s pacing the league with a career-best nine assists per game in this system, while averaging 16.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 29 contests.
Thomas, who finished runner-up in the 2023 MVP race, has recorded five triple-doubles this year. No other WNBA player has more than four in their entire career.
With the way these three stars are playing this year, the WNBA MVP race could become a compelling conversation down the stretch.

Now, a week later, the odds have swung again — Minnesota sits atop the board at +155 to win it all on DraftKings Sportsbook.
The defending champs have hit a wall, losing six of their last 10 and sliding from the No. 2 seed after spending most of the season there. Injuries, most notably to Breanna Stewart, have played a role, but inconsistency and sloppy execution have been just as costly, dropping New York behind Atlanta in the standings.

If there’s a team peaking at the right time, it’s the Atlanta Dream. Winners of eight of their last 10 and riding a six-game streak, Atlanta has jumped the defending champs for the No. 2 seed. Allisha Gray is playing at an MVP level, posting career highs of 18.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. She set the tone in the first of back-to-back matchups with Seattle, dropping 21 points and 11 boards in an 85-75 win that handed the Storm their sixth straight loss. Rhyne Howard also lit it up with 25 points, giving Atlanta serious momentum for Friday’s rematch.
Seattle, meanwhile, has spiraled since trading for Brittney Sykes at the deadline, losing eight of their last 10 and clinging to the final playoff spot. Nneka Ogwumike remains a bright spot, averaging 19 points and 7.4 rebounds over her last five, including a 29-point performance last game. But Skylar Diggins has cooled off, leaving the Storm without their second scoring punch. With the Dream rolling and Seattle reeling, I’m backing Atlanta to extend their win streak to seven and keep their grip on that No. 2 seed.

While both teams are still missing their stars, the Finals favorite Lynx have shown they can thrive without MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier. Tight rotations, timely turnovers, and efficient role-player production have let them dictate pace and finish strong against elite opponents.
For the defending champs, Breanna Stewart’s absence has created a glaring two-way gap. Rebounding issues and an uptick in turnovers have stalled the offense, making it tough to keep pace.
Kayla McBride has stepped up big in Collier’s absence, averaging 18.2 points over her last five, including eight threes in Minnesota’s record-setting 53-point road win over the Aces. Pair her consistency with Alanna Smith’s rim protection and Courtney Williams’ playmaking, and it’s tough to bet against the Lynx continuing their dominance in this matchup.

WNBA Best Bets for August 15: Weekend Preview and WNBA Champion Odds

We’re a day removed from the WNBA trade deadline, and the moves mattered — contenders leveled up! The league-best Lynx bolstered their roster with DiJonai Carrington, last year’s Most Improved Player, while Seattle grabbed Brittney Sykes to tighten up a playoff-bound rotation. With just over a month left in the regular season, August’s where things get real — for teams chasing seeding, players grinding for postseason form, and fans (and bettors) locking in. Also, there’s been some shakeup on the WNBA Champion Odds at DraftKings Sportsbook!

The Favorite: NY Liberty (+170)
I&#8217;ll say it again: we have movement, people! Just a week ago, the Minnesota Lynx were holding steady as the favorites to win the 2025 WNBA Championship at +180, with the Liberty close behind at +190. Fast forward to August 8th, and it’s the reigning champs who’ve jumped ahead — New York is now sitting at +170 to go back-to-back. If you&#8217;re just box score watching, that might not make much sense. Minnesota leads the league with 25 wins, while New York is 5.5 games back at 19. And yeah, the Lynx will be without MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier for a couple weeks (ankle sprain), but the Liberty aren’t exactly healthy either. They dropped four straight before picking up back-to-back wins — so what’s driving this odds shift?
Well, even without Breanna Stewart, who’s missed five games with a bone bruise, New York’s been illustrating their depth. Sabrina Ionescu took over for a stretch, dropping 31 in a Finals rematch vs. Minnesota and 36 against Connecticut, and when she cooled off Tuesday (just 9 points), the rest of the squad stepped up. Leonie Fiebich, Jonquel Jones, Natasha Cloud, and new-comer Emma Meesseman all put up 12+ to power another win. It&#8217;s worth noting, Meesseman isn’t just another depth piece — she’s a former Finals MVP, and her late-season addition gives New York a boost on both ends of the floor. This team’s bench showed up in a big way this week, but we probably won’t see full championship form until Stewie is back in the mix.
 
WNBA Best Bets and Weekend Preview
New York Liberty at Dallas Wings — Friday, August 8, 7:30 PM ET
These two teams square off again after New York’s 85-76 home win on Tuesday, a balanced showing from a squad that’s navigating games without their second-leading points scorer. In that game, Paige Bueckers did Paige Bueckers things — 21 points, 8 rebounds — but struggled from deep (1-5) and reportedly tweaked her back. She’s considered day-to-day, though she’s expected to play on Friday. On the bright side, Dallas did get Maddy Siegrist back after an 18-game absence (knee). She came off the bench and dropped 13 points in Tuesday’s loss — solid return.
With New York in control from tip to buzzer last time out and building a bit of momentum, I’m leaning toward a similar outcome tonight. But to keep things spicy, I’m eyeing the under. Neither team has cracked 90+ in their last three games, and both are dealing with key injuries — Stewart for the Liberty, and a possibly limited Bueckers for the Wings. Under 172 is the play.

Seattle Storm at Las Vegas Aces — Friday, August 8, 10:00 PM ET
The Storm enter Friday’s matchup fresh off a trade deadline pickup, acquiring guard Brittney Sykes from the Mystics. It’s a move that won’t fix their middling three-point shooting (currently 7th in the league at 33.4%), but it does give Seattle a proven two-way contributor. Sykes is averaging 15.4 PPG and brings elite defensive presence, adding to a Storm squad that already ranks 2nd in defensive rating (98.5). With Sykes and Gabby Williams sharing the floor, Seattle now boasts two All-Defensive-caliber perimeter stoppers.
Meanwhile, the Aces are heating up, winning 7 of their last 10. They beat Golden State 78-72 on Wednesday behind A’ja Wilson’s 27-point performance, and she added two blocks to become just the 10th player in WNBA history to hit 500 career blocks.
Seattle’s dropped three straight and just slipped behind the Fever in the standings, making this feel like a must-win. The Aces have the league’s top shot blocker in Wilson (2.3 BPG), but Seattle holds the defensive edge overall — 2nd in defensive rating, 4th in opponent PPG, and loaded with disruptors: Gabby Williams leads the WNBA in steals (2.6), and Ezi Magbegor is second in blocks (2.2), just behind Wilson. The issue? Offense. The Storm have dipped to 9th in points per possession and 9th in offensive rating (101.6). That said, this game should be tight, and Sykes could be the X-factor to spark a Seattle squad that needs momentum.
