Smith continued to make strides in her defensive skills this year, averaging a career-high 1.9 blocks to go with 1.3 steals per game over 42 regular-season games. It's the first career Defensive Player of the Year award for the 29-year-old forward, who was named to the All-Defensive second team a season ago as well. Smith also averaged 9.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 26.5 minutes per game during the regular season, and she's set for unrestricted free agency this offseason.

Smith was held out to rest in the most recent game Saturday against the Valkyries. She has scored at least 11 points in back-to-back games for the first time since late July. Smith has also registered at least three rebounds across 22 of the past 23 appearances, too.
