How Acquired: Kelsey Mitchell first joined the Indiana Fever as the second overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft, making her the longest tenured player on the team heading into her eighth professional season.
WNBA Career:
Mitchell is currently the franchise leader in points per game (17.4), field goals made per game (6.1) and total three pointers made (669), surpassing a decade-long record held by Tamika Catchings. Meanwhile, Mitchell is second in games played (277), total points (4,813), field goals made (1,697) and free throws made (750,) while being fourth in franchise history in assists with 799.
In 2025 Mitchell set new franchise records for points scored in a single season with 890, and points per game in a season with 20.3. Additionally, Mitchell set a new franchise record for most 30+ point games across her career, earning her 11th, passing Catchings.
For the first time in her career Mitchell was named to the All-WNBA First Team and AP All-WNBA First Team, making her just the third player in Fever history to earn first team honors. Additionally, Mitchell was named a WNBA All-Star for the third-consecutive year and was a two-time WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
In her seventh season Mitchell experienced a career-high season, posting a team-leading .402 three-point percentage, while scoring 767 total points, just two points away from leading the team. For her performances throughout the year Mitchell was named her second WNBA All-Star, making it her second-consecutive year to earn the honor. Mitchell finished the season sixth in total points scored in the WNBA and fourth in three points made (109).
From 2019-2023 Mitchell led the Fever in points per game and total points.
In 2023 Mitchell was awarded the Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award recognizing a player who is an inspiration in their community, becoming the third Fever player to earn the award, joining Tamika Catchings (2008, 2016) and Natalie Achonwa (2020). On the court Mitchell scored 728 points, good for the sixth-most in the WNBA in 2023
Prior to missing the remaining five games of the 2022 season, Mitchell sat on a 153-game streak, the longest active streak in the WNBA. That year she averaged career-highs with 18.4 points per game, 4.2 assists per game and shot 43.8 percent from the field, to go along with 1.9 rebounds and 32.6 minutes per contest in 31 games played.
In 2021 Mitchell was the eighth leading scorer in the WNBA, totaling 569 points scored, and was the sixth leading scorer in the WNBA in 2020, scoring 394 total points.
In the 2019 regular season finale at home against Connecticut, Mitchell poured in the most points ever scored by a Fever player (38) and made the most 3-point field goals (9) in a game in franchise history.
In Mitchell’s rookie season she averaged 13.6 points per game and 2.1 three-pointers per game, earning selection to the 2018 WNBA All-Rookie Team and an invite to participate in the WNBA All-Star Game Three-Point Shooting Contest, the only rookie to be asked to participate.
International Experience: Overseas, Mitchell has played in China with Shanxi Flame (2024-25), Spain with Uni Girona CB (2023), in Isreal with Elitzur Ramla (2021-22) and in Egypt with Al Ahly (2019). Additionally, Mitchell participated in Athletes Unlimited during the 2023 offseason.
College: At the collegiate level Mitchell spent four years at the Ohio State University where she was a three-time Big Ten Player of the Year (2015, 2017, 2018), the 2018 Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player, the 2015 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and the 2015 USBWA National Freshman of the Year. Mitchell finished her career at Ohio State having scored the second-most points in NCAA Division I history, at the time, totaling 3,402 points across her four years.
Mitchell still holds the Buckeye’s record for points scored, three points made (497) and is the only player in program history to register four-consecutive 500+ scoring seasons. In Mitchell’s freshman season she scored 873 points, at the time the second-most by a freshman in NCAA Division I history.
