Tyus Jones, Former Lynx Practice Squad Member, Headed To Timberwolves

Tyus Jones was born in Burnsville, Minnesota, emerged as a high school sensation in Apple Valley, Minnesota, and experienced professional basketball for the first time as a member of the Minnesota Lynx scout team from 2011-13.
Now the 19-year-old is member of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Gopher State’s prodigal son is returning home after being selected by the Cavaliers with the No. 24 pick in Thursday night’s NBA Draft and promptly being traded to the T-Wolves for three second-round picks.
Jones, a national champion at Duke as a freshman this past season, enters the NBA with rare professional experience for a rookie. He practiced with the Lynx about a dozen times when he was in high school, helping the two-time champions prepare for matchups with point guards like Sue Bird and Becky Hammon.
“I’d heard of him for a lot of years just with him growing up in Minnesota and me being from Minnesota,” Lindsay Whalen, a Lynx point guard, Minnesota native and former Minnesota Gophers star, told SI.com in March. “Everybody was like, You gotta check this kid out.”
