Since the announcement of her retirement mid-season, Penny Taylor’s Phoenix Mercury had arranged to honor the franchise favorite at the season’s final regular season home game. As the night arrived, few could have imagined just how much the playoff-bubble Mercury would be celebrating, with the Washington Mystics being eliminated from contention by the Atlanta Dream just an hour before gametime in Phoenix.
