Las Vegas Aces Head Coach Becky Hammon announced today that the team has signed 6-5 veteran free agent center Theresa Plaisance (tuh-REE-suh play-ZAWNCE).
“Theresa is a versatile post player who can extend a defense with her three-point shot creating potential match-up problems in the process,” said Hammon. “She is also one of the better defensive rebounders in the league, which helps in closing out possessions and getting out in transition.”
“It is an honor to have the opportunity to play for Becky Hammon during her inaugural year in the WNBA,” said Plaisance. “Becky is a players’ coach whose impact on both the NBA and WNBA has transcended gender roles and will inspire generations for years to come. I’m excited to sign with the Las Vegas Aces and bring depth and veteran leadership to an already strong core of talented women.”
Plaisance was originally drafted by the Tulsa Shock in the third round (No. 27 overall) of the 2014 WNBA Draft. The eight-year WNBA veteran played five-plus seasons with the franchise, which relocated to Dallas and became the Wings prior to the 2016 campaign.
Dallas traded Plaisance to Connecticut on August 6, 2019, where she stayed until signing a free agent contract with the Washington Mystics in 2021
Plaisance brings career averages of 4.5 points and 3.0 rebounds to Las Vegas. Despite her height, the Louisiana native is comfortable on the perimeter, connecting on 35.0 percent of her three-pointers during her time with the Shock/Wings.
Her best statistical season came in 2017 when she averaged 7.7 points and 4.3 rebounds in 34 games for the Wings. She nearly matched those averages a year ago with the Mystics, averaging 6.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in 31 regular season games.
Plaisance played collegiately at LSU, where she helped the Lady Tigers to three NCAA Tournament appearances, and two trips to the Sweet 16.
The Louisiana native is currently playing for Clarinos in the Spanish League where she is averaging 13. 5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Tina Charles had 26 points and 16 rebounds and the Washington Mystics beat the Atlanta Dream 82-74 on Friday night to snap a three-game losing streak.
Charles moved past Rebekkah Brunson (3,356) for second place on the WNBA career rebounding list, trailing Sylvia Fowles (3,674).
Washington (11-18) moved into a tie with the New York Liberty for eighth — the final playoff spot. The Mystics go on the road to face Chicago and New York, followed by a home game against Minnesota to close the regular season.
Atlanta (7-22) was eliminated from playoff contention.
Theresa Plaisance had 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Washington. Natasha Cloud added 13 points, six assists and four steals. The Mystics had 20 assists on 29 field goals.
Courtney Williams led the Dream with 23 points. Monique Billings added 14 points and 10 rebounds, Tiffany Hayes had 13 points, six assists and four steals, and Aari McDonald scored 11 points.

CHICAGO (AP) — Tina Charles had 32 points and 17 rebounds to continue her renaissance season and the Washington Mystics beat the Chicago Sky 89-85 in overtime Saturday night to snap a four-game losing streak.
Charles, the 2012 WNBA MVP, is having a career year in her 11th season — her first with the Mystics. The five-time first team all-WNBA pick is averaging a career-best and league-leading 25.8 points and 9.6 rebounds while shooting a career-high 36% from 3-point range.
Ariel Atkins added 14 points, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough had 12 and Theresa Plaisance added 10 points and eight rebounds for Washington (8-10). Natasha Cloud tied her career high with 11 assists.
Cloud made a driving layup and then Charles stole a pass from Courtney Vandersloot before hitting a 3-pointer that made it 87-82 with 3:43 left in overtime and the Mystics led the rest of the way.
Stefanie Dolson scored a season-high 20 points and Candace Parker had 17 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks for Chicago (10-10). Allie Quigley was 4 of 8 from 3-point range and finished with 16 points and Courtney Vandersloot added 13 points and 15 assists.
Vandersloot slipped around a screen by Dolson and another by Parker on the sideline and then slipped a bounce pass to a rolling Dolson for a layup that gave the Sky an 82-80 lead with 4.0 seconds left in regulation but, after Atkins missed a potential winning 3-point shot for Washington, Charles’ <a class="" href="https://twitter.com/MysticsBrasil/status/1414049160580452359" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">offensive rebound and putback</a> as time expired forced overtime.
Vandersloot has WNBA-record 65 career games with double-digit assists, breaking Ticha Penichiero’s record of 64 set from 1998-2012.
Charles has a league-leading and franchise record eight games this season with 30-plus points, a franchise record. The 32-year old has six career games, including four this season, with at least 30 points and 15 rebounds — a WNBA record. Lauren Jackson is the only other player in league history with multiple 30-15 games in a single season (2010).

WASHINGTON (AP) — Tina Charles had 30 points, a season-high 15 rebounds and three steals to help the Washington Mystics beat the Indiana Fever 82-77 on Saturday night.
Charles’ three-point play gave Washington a 76-69 lead with 2:11 to play. Theresa Plaisance hit three 3-pointers and had 16 points and 12 rebounds.
The Mystics (6-6) have won back-to-back games and four of their last five. Indiana (1-14) has lost 10 in a row.
Danielle Robinson had 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting for the Fever and added six assists. Tiffany Mitchell had 17 points.
Ariel Atkins made a layup to give Washington the lead for good at 68-67 with 5:30 left. Plaisance followed with a 3, Atkins added another layup and Charles was fouled as she finished inside to cap the 10-2 spurt.
Atkins scored 16 points and made 8 of 8 free throws, including six in the final two minutes.
