Mystics, Sparks To Face Off Tuesday Night On ESPN2

The Washington Mystics will look to get back in the win column Tuesday in a nationally televised game against a team that has yet to record a victory – the Los Angeles Sparks. The matchup – which is slated for 8 p.m. on ESPN2 – pits an early-season Eastern Conference power against a team that was thought to be a leader in the west.

Mike Thibault’s Mystics squad sits second in the Eastern Conference at 4-2. They’ve been led by the consistent play of third-year forward Emma Meesseman and two-time All-Star Ivory Latta, who leads the league in three-point field goals made (15).

She enters Tuesday’s game fresh off a 24-point performance against the Fever. The eight-year veteran shot 7-of-12 from the field and 6-of-8 from beyond the arc.

The Sparks start their three-game east coast roadtrip on the heels of a 76-68 loss to the Connecticut Sun. Head coach Brian Agler’s team is still looking to earn his first win at the helm of the Sparks. The Mystics are sure to be a tough matchup for an undermanned Sparks team, but help is likely just around the corner.

Nneka Ogwumike is day-to-day with a sprained ankle and should make her season debut soon, which will be a welcomed addition to a rotation that is already without Kristi Toliver and Candace Parker.

Jantel Lavender has been the Sparks’ oncourt leader thus far,  averaging 12.8 points and 11 rebounds per game. Alana Beard (left foot injury) and Erin Phillips (right knee sprain) were held out of the last game with injuries and are day-to-day. Should they be held out again, Agler will look for contributions from a host of players, including Temeka Johnson, Farhiya Abdi and Jennifer Lacy.

The game will be available on ESPN2 and WatchESPN.
