Seattle Storm forward Abby Bishop has made a name for herself throughout her professional basketball career — whether it be with the Australian national team or in the WNBA. Now, she’s earning recognition for a decision she made off the court.

Bishop adopted her sister’s newborn baby, Zala,  and took her in nearly two years ago after her sister tried to overdose on prescription drugs. Since then she’s had to adjust to many challenges along the way. From new rules implemented by her national team to the normal changes becoming a parent brings on, Bishop is still adjusting to the new life.

ABC’s Good Morning America caught up with Bishop and honored her as an “Everyday Hero” on Tuesday.
