Welcome to All-Star week.

This weekend, the league’s annual celebration of the game and its stars takes over Chicago with Friday’s State Farm 3-Point Contest and Kia Shooting Stars at Wintrust Arena, followed by Saturday’s All-Star Game at the United Center.

Before 22 of the league’s top players head to the Windy City for this weekend’s festivities, let’s take our weekly snapshot of the league and see how the teams stack up.

1. Minnesota Lynx (20-6) ↔️

The Lynx enter All-Star week with the third-longest active win streak at five consecutive victories. The two teams with longer streaks are biting at Minnesota’s heels in the standings, and these rankings (see our next two teams), but the Lynx have been able to keep them at bay — at least for now. The Lynx will be well represented in Chicago, with Olivia Miles and Courtney Williams playing for Team Spoon (coached by Cheryl Reeve), while Natasha Howard will represent Team Coop.

2. Golden State Valkyries (19-7) ⬆️

The Valkyries maintain their title as “hottest team in the league” as they extended their franchise-record win streak to nine in a row on Saturday. Golden State is a scorching 13-2 over their past 15 games, dating back to June 9. That is the best record in the league during that span. However, their two matchups with the Lynx (both losses by a combined total of nine points) came before this hot streak got started. Gabby Williams is the only member of the Valkyries on an All-Star roster, as the versatile forward will represent Team Coop.

3. Dallas Wings (17-8) ⬆️

It’s tough to drop the Aces two spots in the rankings when they didn’t play a game all week, but with Golden State and Dallas on fire right now, the idle Aces were leapfrogged by both teams. This week, Las Vegas visits Toronto and Washington, before Jackie Young, A’ja Wilson, and coach Becky Hammon head to Chicago. As the coach of Team Coop, Hammon will now endure the daunting task that the WNBA’s other 14 coaches face throughout the season — trying to stop A’ja Wilson, who is starting for Team Spoon.

4. Las Vegas Aces (17-7) ⬇️

It’s tough to drop the Aces two spots in the rankings when they didn’t play a game all week, but with Golden State and Dallas on fire right now, the idle Aces were leapfrogged by both teams. This week, Las Vegas visits Toronto and Washington, before Jackie Young, A’ja Wilson, and coach Becky Hammon head to Chicago. 5. Indiana Fever (16-10) ↔️

Before she heads to Chicago to appear in her second WNBA All-Star Game, Caitlin Clark made a bit of history Friday night during Indiana’s win over Seattle. She erupted for 45 points, 10 assists, six 3-pointers, four steals, and two blocks in just 29 minutes. Clark is the only player in WNBA or NBA history to record 40+ points and 10+ assists in a game with under 30 minutes of action. Clark and the Fever have won four of their last five games (and are 7-3 in their last 10), helping them hold a top-five position. Indy will be well represented in Chicago, with Clark and Aliyah Boston on Team Spoon and facing Kelsey Mitchell this weekend.

6. Atlanta Dream (16-10) ↔️

• This Week: No Games (Next: July 29 at DAL)

Similar to Dallas with Paige Bueckers, Atlanta earned a victory on Sunday (93-91 over Chicago) but saw an All-Star leave the court and not return. Angel Reese exited the game with a left leg injury after just 20 minutes. Despite losing her, the Dream prevailed behind Allisha Gray’s 29 points and Jordin Canada’s buzzer-beating layup, pushing their win streak to three games. This weekend, assuming Reese is healthy, she will represent Team Coop and face Dream teammates Gray and Rhyne Howard, both of whom are on Team Spoon.

7. New York Liberty (13-12) ↔️

• This Week: Mon. at DAL, Wed. vs. CHI

On June 30, the Liberty became the first team in WNBA history to win the Commissioner’s Cup twice in the competition’s six-year history. However, the Liberty went 1-4 in the five games leading up to that Championship Game win, and have gone 1-4 in the five games since. That 2-8 stretch has dropped New York from a tie for second place in the league to seventh place (just a half-game ahead of eighth). The Liberty will look to get back on track this week at Dallas and at home against Chicago before Breanna Stewart (Team Coop) and Jonquel Jones (Team Spoon) face each other in the All-Star Game.

8. Washington Mystics (12-12) ↔️

• Last Week: 8
• This Week: Mon. at GSV, Wed. vs. LVA

After picking up four wins in a five-game stretch to move two games above .500, the Mystics dropped two straight last week to Portland and Golden State. Washington will try to avoid going into the break on a four-game skid as the Mystics face the Valkyries and Aces to close out their pre-All-Star break schedule. Similar to other teams featuring multiple All-Stars, the Washington duo of Sonia Citron (Team Coop) and Kiki Iriafen (Team Spoon) will go head-to-head as the two sophomores return to the All-Star Game for the second straight year.

9. Portland Fire (11-15) ⬆️

• This Week: Wed. vs. DAL

Throughout July, Portland has traded wins and losses over six games. The Fire will try to continue that bounce-back trend entering their final game before the All-Star break. Coming off a 101-93 loss to the Lynx, they will look to rebound and cool down the blazing Dallas Wings on Wednesday. After playing eight of their last nine games on the road, the Fire will open a stretch of six home contests in a seven-game span. So far this season, Portland is 6-6 at home compared to just 5-9 on the road.

10. Toronto Tempo (10-15) ↔️

• This Week: Mon. vs. LVA

The Tempo have gone just 1-6 since Marina Mabrey’s record-tying 53-point performance on June 25. During that seven-game stretch, Toronto has allowed a league-high 92.9 points per game, while only scoring 81.9 per game (11th in the league). Before Mabrey heads to Chicago as an All-Star for Team Coop, she and the Tempo will look to get back on track with a matchup against the defending champs on Monday.

11. Chicago Sky (9-17) ⬆️

This past week, the Sky picked up wins over Seattle and Los Angeles before dropping a heartbreaker to Atlanta on Sunday thanks to Jordin Canada’s buzzer-beating layup. Speaking of game-winning heroics, the Sky will face Sabrina Ionescu and the Liberty in their final matchup before the All-Star break. Last month, Ionescu sank a game-winning layup against the Sky in their first meeting of the season. Can the Sky avenge that loss on the road?

12. Los Angeles Sparks (10-15) ⬇️

• This Week: Wed. vs. PHX

On June 24, the Sparks announced that All-Star guard Kelsey Plum would be sidelined for at least four weeks due to a lower leg injury. How important has Plum been for L.A. this season? The Sparks are 7-5 in the 12 games that Plum has played. They are just 3-10 without her. L.A. hosts the Mercury in its final game before the break. As for the All-Star Game, Plum (Team Coop) and Nneka Ogwumike (Team Spoon) will go head-to-head in Chicago (assuming both players are healthy).

13. Phoenix Mercury (9-18) ⬇️

• This Week: Wed. at LAS

On Sunday, DeWanna Bonner scored a season-high 21 points to help the Mercury defeat the Sun and snap a five-game skid. Keep an eye on Bonner in the coming weeks as she approaches some all-time milestones. She is four games away from passing Diana Taurasi for the second-most games played in WNBA history. Additionally, she needs just four rebounds to pass Rebekah Brunson for a spot in the all-time top five, and sits only nine 3-pointers shy of becoming the ninth player to reach 700 career triples. Bonner will look to add to her career totals when the Mercury visit the Sparks on Wednesday.

14. Connecticut Sun (7-19) ⬇️

• This Week: Wed. at IND

After opening the season at 2-15, the Connecticut Sun have begun to turn things around. The Sun are 5-4 in their last nine games, dating back to June 22. Can they continue to trend in this direction when they visit Indiana on Wednesday in their final game before the All-Star break? Connecticut comes out of the break with three more road games: at Washington, at Indiana, and at Chicago.

15. Seattle Storm (6-21) ⬇️

• This Week: Mon. vs. MIN, Wed. vs. MIN

The Storm are one of three teams — along with New York and Los Angeles — tied for the league’s longest active losing streak at four consecutive games. In fact, after opening the season 3-4 through seven games, the Storm have gone just 3-14 in the 17 games since. A bright spot for the Storm is second-year center Dominique Malonga, earning her first All-Star nod. She will head to Chicago as part of Team Coop.
