Breakout Players Early in the 2016 Season

- Across the board, Hayes is enjoying her best season. She’s posting career bests in points (16.2), rebounds (5.0), steals (1.8), overall shooting (57 percent) and three-point efficiency (41 percent). At this rate, an All-Star selection could be in the former second-round pick’s future.
- Entering the season having started only seven games in three seasons, Hill is playing her best all-around ball through five games (all starts), posting 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists while shooting on 39 percent on five three-pointers per game. She recently recorded a career-high 24 points to go along with four rebounds and six assists vs. the Connecticut Sun.
- A first-time All-Star in 2015, McBride has taken her game to another level through four games. She ranks in the Top 10 in scoring (19.0 points per game) while shooting a career-high 41 percent. Against Dallas, she scored 29 points, going 8-for-16 overall (4-5 3PT, 9-10 FT).
- Last season’s Rookie of the Year is scoring 19.3 points with 49 percent efficiency and 95 percent from the line for good measure. Adding to the fun, Loyd nailed a game-winner against the Mercury, scoring 12 of her career-high 30 points in the fourth quarter.
- A valuable backup on the Eastern Conference champion Fever last season, Clarendon looks like a steal of an offseason acquisition for Atlanta. Through four games, she’s averaging an impressive 14.6 points on 56-percent shooting and grabbing 4.6 rebounds — all career highs.
- How will the Liberty replace All-Star guard Epiphanny Prince? Rodgers, one of Prince’s backups on last year’s record-setting New York squad, has provided an immediate answer. The former Georgetown Hoya has more than doubled her scoring average to 16.5 points per game.
- Despite the Sky’s slow start, Faulkner has been red-hot. The third-year guard has emerged as a secondary playmaker out of the backcourt, ranking third in the league with 5.6 assists per game while shooting 59 percent through five games.
- The Stars have to be thrilled with their 2015 first-round pick’s progress during her sophomore season. Hamby has looked like the player who led the ACC in scoring as a senior, putting up 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds for the young San Antonio team.
