Breaking Down the All-Star Game

UNCASVILLE, CONN. - In the first WNBA All-Star game she's gotten a chance to play in, Candace Parker set the WNBA record for most points in an All-Star game with 23 points.

Moments before hoisting the MVP trophy over her head, Parker said she didn't think much of the record because the game for her was really about having fun.

"It was a lot of fun to be with everybody," she said. "Everybody here is talented and capable of being an MVP."

She surpasses Chicago Sky's Swin Cash, who on the very same floor in the Mohegan Sun Arena set the previous record in the 2009 WNBA All-Star game.

A deeper dive into the numbers shows Parker's edge over Cash's performance didn't end there. Parker also grabbed a game high of 11 rebounds compared to Cash's six. Parker's efficiency was also higher shooting 10-13 from field goal range compared to Cash's 10-16.

LA in the House

Parker said the game was about representing the Los Angeles Sparks and alongside teammate Kristi Toliver, the duo dominated the game. Toliver finished the game with 21 points that included 8-13 shooting from field goal range.

"The All-Star Game fit our resume very well," Parker said. "We like to get out and run, we played a little defense in the second half and I think overall we did well."

The next leading scorers in the game were Ivory Latta and Epiphanny Prince, who both finished the game with 15 points.

Finals Rematch

Other notable leaders in the game were Minnesota Lynx's Maya Moore, Rebekka Brunson and Seimone Augustus and the Atlanta Dream's Angel McCoughtry and Erika deSouza. The two teams faced off in the 2011 WNBA Finals where the Lynx swept the matchup 3-0.

Brunson locked in a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Moore and Augustus put up similar scoring numbers with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

McCoughtry and deSouza finished the All-Star game with complementary stat lines too. McCoughtry finished the game with 11 points and 8 rebounds while deSouza racked up 13 points and 8 rebounds.
