WNBA and San Antonio Silver Stars Host WNBA All-Star Festivities in San Antonio

NEW YORK, July 18, 2011 � The 2011 WNBA All-Star Game presented by adidas, featuring the greatest women�s basketball players in the world, will be hosted for the first time by the San Antonio Silver Stars and nationally broadcast on ABC on Saturday, July 23, at 3:30 p.m. ET.

As part of its historic 15th season celebration, the league is honoring the most influential players since its inception in 1997, and the Top 15 players of all time will be unveiled during a special halftime presentation at the WNBA All-Star Game.

While the midseason showcase highlights a weekend of basketball-related festivities, the league makes its most significant impact off the court by demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility, health and wellness, and education through special WNBA Cares events and clinics.

To further celebrate All-Star, adidas will be giving away one thousand T-shirts during the game as an extension of their season long WNBA adidas Basketball Team Nights program.

Wednesday, July 20
Coca-Cola�s America Is Your Park Program
Coca-Cola will be awarding a $10,000 grant to Mission San Jos�, San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, to tip off their America Is Your Park campaign. As part of this announcement the WNBA will host a clinic for local boys and girls from the Boys & Girls Club of San Antonio. Led by WNBA Legend Helen Darling, the children will participate in fitness skills and drills that encourage them to get outside and play this summer.

BBVA Compass Reading Counts
WNBA Cares will team up with BBVA Compass, along with WNBA Legend Nancy Lieberman, and other WNBA All-Stars and legends, to raise awareness and promote the value of literacy to local elementary school students.

Members of the WNBA family will spend time reading some of their favorite books with the students while emphasizing the importance of literacy and education.

Dribble to Stop Diabetes Clinic
Dribble to Stop Diabetes is a national multimedia campaign developed by the National Basketball Association (NBA), the WNBA and the NBA Developmental League, in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association and Sanofi US, designed to encourage fans to live an active, healthy lifestyle and raise awareness about diabetes prevention, management and the potentially serious health complications that can be associated with the disease. Approximately 26 million Americans have diabetes, seven million of whom haven�t been diagnosed yet. Dribble to Stop Diabetes encourages fans to understand their risk and to talk to their doctor to get tested.

As part of the Dribble to Stop Diabetes campaign, WNBA All-Stars and legends will join Survivor Outreach Services to provide a group of 100 boys and girls with the opportunity to learn basketball fundamentals while being actively engaged in drills to emphasize the importance of staying active and living a healthy lifestyle.

BBVA Compass Visionary Team Leaders Luncheon
The first annual BBVA Compass Visionary Team Leaders Luncheon at WNBA All-Star will be held on Friday. The event will look to honor local leaders in education, business, and the community. Nancy Lieberman will serve as the host of the event and a number of WNBA players and legends will be in attendance.

WNBA All-Star Open Practice
AT&T Center will host open practices for the East and West All-Stars on Friday, July 22. Fans can attend both practices free of charge.

The East All-Stars are scheduled to practice from 3:30 - 4 p.m., with the West All-Stars practicing from 4:30 - 5 p.m. Media availability will take place between practices starting at 4 p.m.

WNBA FIT Jamba Juice Clinic
WNBA Cares will partner with Jamba Juice to host a WNBA FIT Clinic for 100 boys and girls as part of a shared commitment to improving the lives of fans and young people through the promotion of fitness and healthy nutrition.

In addition to discussions about better eating choices and the importance of regular exercise, WNBA All-Stars and legends will instruct youth participants during a variety of fitness stations and physical drills that incorporate running, sit-ups, push-ups and shuttle runs, among other fun activities such as bean bag relays and a free throw shootout competition.

Special Half-time Ceremony -- Top 15 Players of All Time
As part of its historic 15th season celebration, the league is honoring the most influential players since its inception in 1997, and the Top 15 players of all time will be unveiled during a special halftime presentation at the WNBA All-Star game.

Voting is currently being conducted among 30 official nominees by fans and select national and WNBA-market media, as well as current players and coaches. The nominees were selected with consideration given to such factors as on-court performance and ability, leadership, sportsmanship, and community service, as well as to contributions to team success and the overall growth of women�s basketball.
