Through The Years: Tamika Catchings, Diana Taurasi Head-To-Head, Together
- Catchings and Taurasi shake hands before Game 4 of the 2009 WNBA Finals. Game 1 of this series staged one of the greatest games in league history, a 120-116 Mercury victory. Ultimately, Taurasi coupled her league MVP with Finals MVP, as Catchings posted 16.2 points in the 5-game series that the Mercury won.
- Known for her supreme defense, Catchings (pictured, defended by Taurasi) has also made her mark on offense. Along with five Defensive Player of the Year awards, ‘Catch’ has posted 16.2 points in her 15-year career, peaking with 44.2 percent three-point shooting in 2010.
- Taurasi and Catchings have been selected to a combined 17 WNBA All-Star Games.
- Ever intertwined, Taurasi’s (middle) first All-WNBA First Team selection coincided with Catchings’ (far left) third-straight All-WNBA selection (second team, 2004). They’ve combined for 22 All-WNBA selections.
- Taurasi has given Catchings’ all-world defense many headaches over the years. The five-time WNBA scoring champion eclipsed the 7,000-point plateau this season, inching closer toward Catchings’ number two ranking in WNBA history.
- Both Catchings and Taurasi are four-time Olympic gold medalists, winning their first in 2004 when the USA dominated opponents by 23.8 points per game.
- In the 2016 Olympics, Taurasi and Catchings won their fourth gold medals, aiding the USA’s unmatched dominance, evidenced by their 37.3 point differential.
