WNBA on ESPN2: Elena Delle Donne Takes the Big Stage

Tuesday night’s prime-time ESPN2 game delivers the perfect player to TV sets across the nation at the perfect time.
Amidst her historic nine-game start to the 2015 season, Elena Delle Donne leads the Chicago Sky (5-4) into a matchup with the New York Liberty (5-4), a fellow Eastern Conference playoff contender.
Here’s what to watch for in tonight’s game (8 PM ET, ESPN2):

Can EDD keep it going?
Delle Donne has opened her third WNBA season like no player ever has before. Her 317 points through nine games (29.0 per game) are a record, her 42.5 Player Efficiency Rating would be a record, and she’s made 48 consecutive free throws and 81/83 overall.
That’s just the start of putting her numbers into context — read more here — but needless to say, all eyes will be on EDD to see what the MVP front runner has in store for Game 10.
Familiar Faces

This will be the first time Chicago and New York are meeting this season, meaning it will be the first time Cappie Pondexter and Epiphanny Prince face their old teams since they were swapped in a blockbuster trade in February.
The move represented a return home for both players. While Pondexter has given the Sky just the steadying veteran presence they needed (16.9 PPG, 45% FG), Prince is set to make her season debut on Tuesday after spending the past month with the Russian national team.
Prince, a born and raised New Yorker, spent the first six seasons of her career with Chicago, making two All-Star Games while averaging 14.1 points, 3.1 assists and 1.9 steals.
Controlling the Pace
The Sky have found early success in 2015 not just by building their attack around Delle Donne, but also by kicking their offense into high gear.
Chicago has played at the league’s fastest pace (78.8 possessions per 40 minutes) and in turn put together the league’s No. 2 offense (105.9 points per 100 possessions), per Basketball-Reference.com. New York ranks as the No. 2 defense, so Tuesday’s matchup will likely be decided by who imposes their style of play on the game.
Liberty center Tina Charles (13.9 PPG, 8.8 RPG) will have a lot of say in that battle against the undersized Chicago front line. Courtney Vandersloot and Allie Quigley shooting on the wings will be a key for the Sky.
