Season Highlights:

Team Needs:
When a team has finished last in the Eastern Conference three years in a row like the Sun have, there are plenty of needs. So it’s a good thing, then, that the Sun have two of the top four picks in the 2016 WNBA Draft. Because while the return of Chiney Ogwumike will be a welcome addition, one player won’t solve everything.

Defense. Defense. Defense. That is by far the most pressing concern for the Sun heading into the 2016 season. They bled points last year, finishing 10th in the league in defensive rating by giving up 102.3 points per 100 possessions. “Defense wins championships” is a phrase fans have heard over and over again, but that’s because it’s true. Each of the four teams playing in the Conference Finals last year were in the top five in defense during the regular season. So whether it’s in the backcourt, on the wing, or down in the paint, the Sun are in desperate need of a lockdown defender.

Offensively, they should be pretty solid, especially with the return of Ogwumike. Even without the 2014 Rookie of the Year, the Sun finished in the middle of the pack on the offensive end last season, putting up 100.1 points per 100 possessions. Still, a pure scorer on the wing could be a perfect fit. More offense is never a bad thing, and someone who could take the pressure and attention off the likes of Ogwumike, Alex Bentley, and Most Improved Player Kelsey Bone would go a long way.
