Whalen: Most Career Wins in WNBA History

En route to helping the Lynx to a 9-0 start, Lindsay Whalen passed Swin Cash for the most wins in WNBA history. Whalen now has 296 regular-season wins over 14 seasons with the Connecticut Sun and Minnesota Lynx.

Cash sent Whalen congratulations on Twitter and Whalen took to Twitter herself to encourage the future generation of WNBA players.

Lynx Jump To 9-0

The Lynx added two more victories to their record this past week, earning wins against the Washington Mystics and Dallas Wings. Sylvia Fowles led the Lynx in both games with 21 points against the Mystics and 30 against the Wings. The Lynx have dominance in the post from Fowles, but the scoring was balanced against Washington and everyone is crashing the boards.

This is the second year in a row the Lynx are undefeated through nine games. After three games on the road, they return to Xcel Energy Center for a three-game homestand.

Tina “Consistency” Charles

Tina Charles now has the most Player of the Week honors in WNBA history (23), surpassing the record held by Tamika Catchings. Sylvia Fowles joined Charles this past week and earned her third POW award already this season.

Home Court Advantage

The Liberty are on a hot streak at home, having won four straight games and improved their record to 6-3. The Liberty are without Kia Vaughn and Epiphanny Prince due to commitments for EuroBasket Women 2017. Bill Laimbeer initially said the team would likely “take their lumps” with Vaughn and Prince gone, but so far New York is 4-0 without two of its core players.

Tina Charles has been a consistent factor in New York’s success, but the entire team has stepped up in their absence and the ‘Liberty Loyals’ have been there to cheer them on.

Pride Month

For the fourth consecutive year, the WNBA is celebrating equality during LGBTQ Pride Month in June. Check out these rainbow kicks:

Each team is celebrating by hosting Pride Night during a home game.

Christmas-Kelly’s Big Block

Karima Christmas-Kelly had a big-time block against Sylvia Fowles. Fowles is usually the one dishing out the blocks instead of receiving them, but Christmas-Kelly is known for her defense, especially after Sunday night.

SportsCenter Worthy Handles

Erica Wheeler made SportsCenter’s Top 10 highlights with her handles against the Storm. Wheeler had 19 points and six assists to help the Fever to an 83-80 victory over Seattle.

Next up for the Mercury is the Chicago Sky on June 16.

Nancy Lieberman Day

The WNBA honored women’s basketball pioneer Nancy Lieberman at halftime of the Dallas Wings vs. Minnesota Lynx game. Lieberman started her professional career with the Dallas Diamonds in the Women’s Basketball League in 1980. She is currently an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings.
