Overview

For two straight seasons the Washington Mystics have improved in their final standing in the Eastern Conference under general manager and head coach Mike Thibault. In fact, Washington managed to finish tied for second in the conference last season despite a young roster.

This season, the roster looks much like it did in 2014, albeit with another year of seasoning. The only subtractions are Monique Curry, who signed with Phoenix, and Tianna Hawkins, who is set to miss part of the season due to pregnancy.

As far as additions, the Mystics already added Armintie Herrington to the fold, but they’ll look to add another piece with the No. 8 overall selection in the upcoming WNBA Draft.

Washington has found value in the Draft in recent years, highlighted by the selection of Emma Meesseman in the second round in 2013. Meesseman has turned out to be a nice contributor, leading the team in rebounds and finishing second in points during her 2014 sophomore campaign.

So what might Thibault’s squad be looking to add in the Draft?

The Mystics shot below the league average from beyond the arc in 2014, so Washington may opt to add a prospect that shot well from distance in college. Or, if Tennessee’s Isabelle Harrison remains on the board, Thibault’s team may be satisfied drafting a potential star of the future, although she will miss the 2015 WNBA season with a torn ACL.
