UPDATE: September is here and the Chicago Sky are on 50 Cent’s calendar. Per the request of rookie and Fiddy superfan Imani Boyette, the rapper/actor/producer will be in the building Tuesday night to see the Sky take on the defending champs.
Boyette spoke about the hype while previewing the matchup.
“Obviously everyone knows I’m like a superfan so, it’s gonna be really fun. I think [it’s] gonna be a great game,” Boyette. “We’re playing Minnesota, it’s nationally televised, so it’s gonna be good for us, and just nice having 50 in the crowd,” Boyette acknowledged while laughing.
The Sky still have business to attend to, with playoff seeding still up in the air. But teammate Cappie Pondexter isn’t worried about 50 Cent being a distraction.
“Oh we’ll support it,” assured Pondexter. “We know Imani loves 50 Cent and I think she did a great thing reaching out on her social media to get him to come to the game, so once he comes to the game he’ll be a fan. So, I’m excited to have him and thankful for his support.”
Any nerves bubbling for Boyette? Not likely.
“Well I met him during the Olympic break so I got all of my first time jitters out, so I think I’ll be able to stay composed and I’ll have my teammates yelling at me to stay focused, so I’ll be good.”
Here’s a refresher on how that Olympic break meet-up between the star and the rookie happened (originally from this midseason feature on Boyette):
“For the Olympic break I spent the first half in Texas with my husband, and the second half I spent in LA ’cause that’s where I’m from and that’s where my trainer is and everything. So I spent the second half in LA and the last day before we came back from break he posted his appearance,” she relayed.
“I texted my trainer, like, ‘Can’t go to work out, gotta meet 50, sorry.’ It was like an hour away, and my trainer was like, ‘No, you’re gonna workout.’ So I just drove an hour and I got there and I told his bouncers who I was, and finally they talked amongst each other and told his manager, and his manager remembered me. So he let me meet him … and then I had to workout at like 10 PM (laughs).”

As for the important question, is he going to come to a game?
“Yeah, he totally is,” Boyette said, excitedly. “His manager was like, ‘No, we actually have you scheduled for September, like you’re on the calendar, we’re actually coming.’ So that’s really cool.”
Hate it or love it, but with 50 Cent finally on board, the Sky winners of four of their last six, and Boyette emerging as a presence in the paint, the underdog’s on top. And she’s gon’ shine, homie, until her heart stops.
Update: 50 Cent’s not the only cast member of the hit show Power to get WNBA love recently. Here’s Breanna Stewart with Joseph Sikora who plays fan-favorite Tommy Egan on the show.
