Down by two points with 1.1 seconds to play, Kelsey Plum (Las Vegas Aces/Washington/Poway, Calif.) had her potential game-tying 2-pointer blocked at the buzzer and the U.S. Olympic 3×3 Women’s Team (6-1) was handed its first loss by host Japan (5-2) 20-18 at Aomi Urban Sports Park on Tuesday in Tokyo.
Stefanie Dolson (Chicago Sky/Connecticut/Port Jervis, N.Y.) scored a team-high seven points, Allisha Gray (Dallas Wings/South Carolina/Sandersville, Ga.) had five, Jackie Young (Las Vegas Aces/Notre Dame/Princeton, Ind.) scored four points and Plum finished with two.
The USA already secured the No. 1 seed into the medal round. The USA awaits the winner of the A4/A5 quarterfinal game, which also will be played today, for its semifinal at 4 a.m. EDT on July 28.
