Ramu Tokashiki Re-Ups With The Seattle Storm On A Multi-Year Deal

SEATTLE – The Seattle Storm today announced that 2016 WNBA All-Rookie Team honoree Ramu Tokashiki has signed a multi-year deal with the franchise.

“Taku is a key building block for our future,” said Storm head coach Jenny Boucek. “Her combination of passion, athleticism, fearlessness and instinct for the game makes her a dynamic playmaker on both ends of the floor. The sky is the limit for Taku and we are extremely excited about her commitment to the Storm.”

Breaking into the starting lineup just eight games into the season, Tokashiki posted season averages of 8.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in her WNBA debut season. She led the team in scoring four times and posted a single-game team high in blocks 17 of the 30 games she was available to play. The Japan native scored a career-high 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting on June 28 at Tulsa, and posted a career-high nine rebounds on Aug. 16 vs. San Antonio.

“I had such a great experience in Seattle last season and am very excited and proud to be a part of Storm Basketball moving forward,” said Tokashiki. “I can’t wait to get back to Seattle to start working towards a championship!”

Tokashiki is currently playing overseas with JX-ENEOS and averaging team-highs in both points (18.5) and rebounds (8.8). She led her team to the All-Japan title in early January and was named to the ‘Best 5’ Tourney Team.

A two-time WJBL MVP, Tokashiki led the WJBL in scoring (18.0ppg), rebounds (11.5rpg), blocked shots (2.13) and field-goal percentage (59.8) during the 2015 season. She is a three-time WJBL Championship winner (2011, 2013, 2014), and was twice voted All-Japanese WJBL First Team, in 2013 and 2014. With the Japanese National Team at the FIBA World Championships last fall in Turkey, Tokashiki averaged 11.3 points and 5.7 rebounds.
