Special Night Shaping Up For Fever Franchise

INDIANAPOLIS – As the WNBA Finals 2015 presented by Boost Mobile shifts to Indiana, a special night is in store for the home team.
It started with Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard declaring this Friday to be “Fever Friday” in the city. The day will end with a pivotal Game 3 (8PM ET, ESPN 2) in Banker’s Life Fieldhouse with former Fever coach Lin Dunn and former Fever players Katie Douglas and Tammy Sutton-Brown in attendance.
A night like this — with past legends supporting the current stars — reveals the continuity that has been a pillar of this franchise.
“We are a close-knit organization,” Zellous said. “Just having Katie and Tammy come back to support us shows how close we are as an organization. We really do live by the statement that it’s a family. We are a family and it’s great to be here, Game 3, it’s ‘Fever Friday’ knowing our fans are going to be here and support us and back us up.”
A raucous home crowd is expected — “this place is going to be rocking tonight,” Tamika Catchings said — and the players also expressed satisfaction with the consistency of the fan base over the years, through highs and lows.
“One things that’s remained is the respect level in the city for the Indiana Fever and as a franchise what we’ve done,” Catchings said.
One of the marquee figures in that franchise history is Dunn, who retired after the 2014 season. In typical fashion, however, the long-time coach still finds time to teach a lesson or two.
“I get texts from Lin, but they’re always encouraging,” Catchings said. “Sometimes I’ll ask and say ‘what did you see’ or ‘what do I need to do better’ and she’s always there to respond.”
“She wants to coach from a distance,” Shavonte Zellous said. “She misses the game, so she coaches from a distance. Getting her input on what she sees because she watches us and what we need to do better and how we can do things better and the adjustments we need to make and all those type of things.”
