Seattle Seahawks Honor Sue Bird with Game Day Tradition

Storm guard Sue Bird is feeling the love from the city of Seattle as she nears the WNBA all-time assists record. Bird has tallied 2954 assists in her 15 seasons in the league, and needs just six more to pass Ticha Penicheiro for most all-time.
Friday night, Bird was called upon by the Seahawks to take part in the team’s game day tradition of raising the “12th Man” flag at CenturyLink field before their preseason game vs. the Kansas City Chiefs. She is the first WNBA player to raise the flag.

The flag is a salute to the fans, honoring them for playing a role alongside the 11 players on the field as the stadium is known to erupt with noise during games. Bird joins a list of local sports personalities and celebrities to raise the flag, alongside basketball players Jamal Crawford, Nate Robinson, Spencer Haywood, Jack Sikma and more.
