- The 11th pick in the 2001 WNBA Draft, Penny Taylor and fellow Australian Lauren Jackson made an immediate impact in the WNBA.
- Taylor was selected to the WNBA All-Star game in her second year in the league, putting up 13 ppg and 5.3 rpg.
- After the Cleveland Rockers folded, Taylor was selected first overall in the dispersal draft by the Phoenix Mercury.
- A prominent member of the Australian Women’s National Team, Taylor won MVP and guided the Opals to the 2006 FIBA World Championship.
- In 2007, Taylor had her best career as a pro, averaging 17.8 ppg and 6.3 rpg while starting all 34 games and making her second All-Star appearance.
- The Mercury concluded the 2007 season by defeating the Detroit Shock, three games to two, in the WNBA Finals to earn the franchise’s first championship.
- After being sidelined with an ankle injury, Taylor returned to boost the Mercury and contribute two decisive free throws to clinch her second championship with Phoenix.
- An ACL injury forced Taylor out for the 2012 season, and she injured the other ACL upon her return, missing most of 2013, as well. Once she returned as a Mercury starter in 2014, the team went on to win the following 16 games. They finished the season with an all-time WNBA-best 28-5 record and cruise to their third WNBA title.
- Taylor decided to sit out 2015 for personal reasons, but returned for one last run with the Mercury in 2016.
