Minnesota Lynx Re-Sign 4x WNBA Champion Seimone Augustus

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL– The Minnesota Lynx announced the team has re-signed guard Seimone Augustus. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Seimone Augustus epitomizes what it means to be a Minnesota Lynx,” said Head Coach and General Manager Cheryl Reeve. “She’s the most loyal and committed player in franchise history and has provided many thrills for Lynx and WNBA fans throughout the years. I’m excited Seimone will continue to provide these moments as a member of the Lynx.”

Augustus, a 13-year pro out of Louisiana State University, is coming off a 2018 season where she played and started in 33 games, her most since 2011, while averaging 10.8 ppg, 1.8 rpg and 2.6 apg in 26.2 mpg. She ranked third among WNBA guards in field goal accuracy (46.7%) while shooting 31.8% (21-for-66) from three-point range. The Baton Rouge native closed the season with seven consecutive double-digit efforts, her longest in-season run since 2015 and totaled 45 assists and just 14 TOs over the final 16 games (3.21-to-1). Augustus passed Katie Douglas and DeLisha Milton-Jones for 11th place on the WNBA’s career scoring list in Minnesota’s victory at Washington on June 7. She will enter the 2019 season needing just six points to pass Becky Hammon for 10th on the all-time scoring list.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be re-signing with the only place I’ve called home in the WNBA,” said Augustus. “Being a member of this franchise means a lot to me and my family and I’m ready to continue what we’ve built here; and that’s a championship group.”

Acquired by the Lynx with the first pick in the 2006 WNBA Draft, the two-time Olympic gold medalist has been instrumental in helping lead the Lynx to a WNBA record-tying four championships, holds postseason averages of 15.8 points on 45.4% shooting, 3.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists. She ranks in the top five in points, field goals made, minutes, games and assists in WNBA Finals history.

The eight-time All-Star, who has been selected to six straight All-Star games, is the franchise career leader in games played and started (358), points (5,836), field goals made (2,381), and minutes (10,763) while ranking third in assists (871) and fourth in total rebounds (1,184). Augustus still holds a franchise record, and a then-WNBA record, when she went a perfect 11-for-11 from the floor in the June 8, 2007 game at Los Angeles.

The Lynx will tip off their 21st WNBA season on Sunday, May 25, at 7:00 p.m. vs. the Chicago Sky at Target Center. Full-season memberships, which include tickets to all 17 home games, are still available by visiting www.lynxbasketball.com/membershipor by calling 612-673-8400.
