Lynx Living For Moment, Not Thinking About 2012

MINNEAPOLIS – It’s an obvious storyline, even Minnesota head coach Cheryl Reeve gets it. But don’t think that the Lynx are talking about it.
Even though this year’s Finals matchup is a rematch of the 2012 WNBA Finals, a series that the Fever won in four games, the Lynx are not dwelling on it.
“I think that’s for everyone else to talk about it. It’s a natural storyline, but it’s just not something,” Reeve said. “We’ve talked about it
maybe one sentence this entire week about 2012.”
The Lynx, who have made four the last five WNBA Finals, prefer to focus on the future and what a win could mean for their combined legacies.
“It’s the past and the past doesn’t really predict our future, so we’re just trying to focus on here and now and the journey we’ve been on for the past five years and the fact that we have the opportunity to maybe win a championship three of the last five years,” Augustus said. “That’s an amazing feat and puts us up there with some of the best teams to ever be assembled in this league.”
“We haven’t discussed it,” Lynx forward Rebekkah Brunson confirmed. “It’s really about us. We worked really hard to get here and no matter who we have to go against we’re going to out there and play our best basketball and try to get it done. The past is the past and this is a new moment and we want to make the best of it.”
The loss in 2012, however, may still have an indirect impact on this series.
“2012 made us a better basketball team,” Reeve said. “We’ve really carried that every day since then. Not so much that we didn’t win, but the things we knew we had to get better at. It made us a tougher team, better able to handle adversity. So that’s kind of the mindset, that this is 2015 and all that matters is 2015.”
