Mercury On Orlando Support: "We Want To Give An Opportunity To Give Back"

Sunday’s tragic Orlando shooting has left the country with heavy hearts. As the city recovers from the physical and emotional scars, unwavering support hasn’t been far behind.

On Saturday, June 18, before and during their game, the Phoenix Mercury will host a fundraiser in support of Orlando’s recovery efforts. The event will auction many items for fans to purchase, after which proceeds will be donated.

During the team’s third annual PRIDE Night, Phoenix will host a blood drive and raise money for the OneOrlando Fund through silent auction, merchandise sales, and at concession stands.

“Our goal was to create different opportunities for fans to help us raise money for the OneOrlando Fund,” Phoenix Mercury Vice President of Business Operations Vince Kozar explained to WNBA.com. “Our players and staff have donated never-before-available items, including autographed, exclusive 20th Season jerseys, and unique in-game experiences, such as sitting in owners’ seats or running out with their favorite player during introductions.”

In celebration of PRIDE Month, Phoenix will also sell PRIDE t-shirts, the proceeds from which will also be donated. Additionally, fans can add donations to their concession tabs, with all proceeds being donated to the Fund.

“In situations like this, people want to help and reach out,” Kozar added. “We just want to give an opportunity to give back because in situations like this, not everyone always knows how.”

“Our entire organization and WNBA will go through PRIDE Month with heavy hearts. We’ll celebrate PRIDE Month for all the reasons worth celebrating, while also keeping the families and friends of the victims in our hearts. We hope to make one small bit of difference in memory of those lost on Sunday.”

The Phoenix Mercury will host the Dallas Wings at 7:00 PM PST at Talking Stick Arena.
