July 9, 2013 --
After playing our game in New York on Sunday afternoon I had the chance to head back to Delaware for the first time since I left for training camp at the end of April. I was very excited to return to Delaware for several reasons but I was by far most excited to see my sister Lizzie. It had been just over two months since I last saw Lizzie and this is the longest that I have even gone without seeing her. When I am away from Lizzie I do not have any communication with her so needless to say I was ecstatic to give her a HUGE hug and spend some time with her!
On the way back from New York I did what anyone would do when arriving to the Delaware/Philly areaI got a delicious cheese steak for dinner! I definitely miss those cheese steaks when I am out in Chicago. After eating I went home and spent some time with my family before going to sleep. Lizzie was already in bed by the time I got home so I had to wait until morning to see her.
When I woke up the next morning I went to the Mary Campbell Center, the center where Lizzie spends her days, to drop Lizzie off for the day and spend some time with the residents at the center. When I was living in Delaware I did a lot of volunteer work there so it was great to see the residents again! Some of my biggest fans reside at the Mary Campbell Center. Monday night I helped my mom make dinner for the family. Of course we cooked a huge Italian meal of Spaghetti with crabs, one of my favorites. It had been a long time since I had a home cooked Italian meal and it was amazing! After dinner I relaxed a bit and then jumped in bed because I had an early flight back to Chicago Tuesday morning.
While my time at home was short I am very thankful that I got to spend time with Lizzie and the rest of my family. It may be a while until I am home again but my family and hometown are always close to my heart.
