College Hoops Highlights: Senior Watch, Spokane Region

With the WNBA Draft just three weeks away, we’re locked into the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament with eyes focused on seniors that are making the most of their last dance.
Here’s a deeper look at the Spokane Region.
Duke
Duke will dance another day after all. Having survived a scare from Albany in the opening round and a convincing victory over Mississippi State on Sunday, the Blue Devils advanced to the round of sixteen. Next up, Duke will face former conference rival Maryland. If you are looking for a good old-fashion battle on the block, you are in for a treat with this one. Duke will need the very best that Elizabeth Williams has to offer on both ends of the floor as she battles Maryland’s bruising front court combination in Brionna Jones and Malina Howard.
Maryland
In addition to the Terps’ post play, they also boast one of the nation’s premier front courts, led by senior Laurin Mincy. Perhaps Mincy is saving her very best for last in what has been somewhat of an injury-riddled career. So far, a healthy Mincy has proved to be well worth the wait. On Monday, she led the way in Maryland’s highly touted match up against the previously undefeated Princeton Tigers. When all was said and done, Mincy raked up a season high 27 points (shooting 6-of-7 from three-point land), four rebounds, and seven assists. The Terps will need that same output from their senior in order to advance past Duke.
Tennessee
In the absence of Isabelle Harrison (to a season-ending knee injury), the Lady Vols have had to rally to find a way to fill the large void that Harrison left behind. Bashaara Graves, Ceirra Burdick and Ariel Massengale have stepped up to fill the void. When the Lady Vols travel to Spokane to take on what will be a very raucous “Gonzaga-friendly” crowd, they will be looking for their seniors, Burdick and Massengale to continue to pick up where they left off – scoring 14 and 16 points respectively against Pittsburgh to will their team to the round of sixteen.
Gonzaga
Sunny Greinacher and Emma Wolfram hit clutch baskets down the stretch to lead Gonzaga to a 76-64 victory over Oregon State on Sunday. The Bulldogs are heading back home to Spokane where they will need another sharpshooting performance from their leaders to advance past Tennessee and earn their first Elite Eight berth.
