2025 AT&T WNBA All-Star Weekend: FAQ and Things to Know

The 2025 WNBA All-Star Weekend has officially arrived! This year, Indiana takes center stage as the Fever host a showcase of the league’s top talent. The weekend is packed with action, leading up to the All-Star Game on Saturday, July 19. Festivities tip off Friday night, July 18 with the Skills Challenge, where select players will navigate obstacle courses and display their on-court versatility. Immediately following is the fan-favorite 3-Point Contest, featuring some of the league&#8217;s sharpest shooters.
On Saturday, Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier will serve as team captains, having already drafted their squads from a pool of All-Star selections. A standout feature of the event is the AT&amp;T 4-Point Shot, which allows players to score from designated zones located roughly six feet beyond the standard three-point arc — adding extra excitement.
However, the Fever’s hometown star Caitlin Clark announced she will not participate in any on-court events after reaggravating a groin injury during Tuesday’s matchup against the Sun. In her absence, Mystics guard Brittney Sykes and Dream forward Brionna Jones have been named as replacements for Clark and the injured Satou Sabally of the Mercury on Team Clark.

Kelsey Plum is back in the 3-Point Contest for the second time, last seen competing in 2022. One of the most productive deep threats in league history, Plum ranks 15th all-time in threes made (542), but her efficiency has been a little up and down lately. She holds a career 3PT% of 38.6%, and she’s hovered right around or just under that over the last three seasons: 38.9%, 36.8%, and 35.8% this year.
Back in 2022, she didn’t make it past Round 1 after putting up 14 points, but she did bounce back in a big way, winning All-Star MVP that same weekend. She’s also been hot lately, shooting 53% from deep over her last four games. So yeah, she could definitely put on a show. That said, a 19.5-point line in Round 1 feels a little rich for me to back.

If there’s one rookie I’m backing to go off during All-Star Weekend, it’s Sonia Citron. She’s already made a splash in her first year in the league — ranking second among rookies in made threes over an 11-game sample, and becoming the first rookie in Mystics history to drop 25+ points and 10+ rebounds in a single game. That alone would turn heads, but she’s also been named an All-Star reserve in Year 1.
When it comes to her shooting, the Notre Dame product has the résumé. She finished her college career as a 37% three-point shooter, with her sophomore season peaking at an impressive 40% from deep. This season in the W, she’s knocking down 36.5% from three, and with open looks and some All-Star spotlight? I’m betting the 21-year-old rises to the occasion.

There’s no shortage of talent on either roster, but the current MVP frontrunner has assembled a stacked squad. Both Storm reps — Skylar Diggins-Smith and Nneka Ogwumike — are averaging over 17 points per game, with Nneka adding 7.7 boards and bringing nine All-Star nods to the table. Kelsey Plum, as mentioned earlier, is a legit threat from deep, a former All-Star Game MVP, and currently ranks third in the league in scoring.
And first? That would be Captain Napheesa Collier. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is having a monster all-around season, leading the league in scoring, grabbing 7.6 rebounds, and swiping 1.8 steals per game, all while anchoring the league’s best defensive rating.
Team Clark isn’t short on firepower either, with sharp-shooter Sabrina Ionescu and Fever standouts Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell both heating up recently. But when it comes to closing out All-Star Weekend with a W, I’m rolling with Team Collier.

NEW YORK, July 18, 2025 – Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull has been named by WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert to replace her injured teammate, guard Caitlin Clark, in the 2025 WNBA STARRY® 3-Point Contest.
ESPN will broadcast the Kia WNBA Skills Challenge and the WNBA STARRY® 3-Point Contest from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, home of the Fever, on Friday, July 18 (8 p.m. ET). The events are a prelude to the 2025 AT&amp;T WNBA All-Star Game, which will be played on Saturday, July 19 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse (8:30 p.m. ET on ABC, Disney+ and ESPN+).
Now in her fourth season in the WNBA, Hull ranks fourth in the WNBA in three-point field goal percentage (46.8) this season after connecting on 29 of her 62 attempts from beyond the arc. The 6-1 Hull, a first-round draft pick of the Fever in 2022, is averaging 7.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game this season.
Hull will make her debut in the event against four other guards, including defending champion Allisha Gray of the Atlanta Dream, Sonia Citron of the Washington Mystics, Kelsey Plum of the Los Angeles Sparks, and the New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu, who set the all-time single-round record for WNBA and NBA three-point contests with a score of 37 points in the final round of the 2023 WNBA STARRY® 3-Point Contest.

Lexie Hull to Replace Caitlin Clark in WNBA STARRY® 3-Point Contest

NEW YORK, July 17, 2025 – Washington Mystics guard Brittney Sykes and Atlanta Dream forward Brionna Jones have been named by WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert to replace the injured Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Phoenix Mercury forward Satou Sabally on Team Clark in the 2025 AT&amp;T WNBA All-Star Game, which will be played on Saturday, July 19 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, home of the Indiana Fever (8:30 p.m. ET on ABC, Disney+ and ESPN+).
Team Clark head coach Sandy Brondello of the New York Liberty will name the players to replace Clark and Sabally in the starting lineup for the AT&amp;T WNBA All-Star Game.
This marks the first All-Star appearance for Sykes, 31, who is in her third season with Washington and her ninth in the WNBA. A four-time All-WNBA Defensive Team selection, the 5-9 guard is the Mystics’ leading scorer this season, averaging 17.1 points per game. Sykes ranks 13th in the league in scoring and assists (4.4 apg) and is contributing 3.6 rebounds per game.
For Jones, 29, this marks her second consecutive WNBA All-Star appearance and the fourth of her career. Last year, Jones helped Team WNBA defeat the US Women’s National Team, 117-109, in the 2024 AT&amp;T WNBA All-Star Game in Phoenix. Now in her first season with Atlanta and her ninth in the WNBA, the 6-3 Jones is averaging 13.4 points and 2.5 assists per game and ranks fifth in the league in rebounding (7.8 rpg) this season.

AT&amp;T 4-POINT SHOT HIGHLIGHTS SPECIAL RULES 
FOR 2025 AT&amp;T WNBA ALL-STAR GAME 
NEW YORK, July 16, 2025 – The AT&amp;T 4-Point Shot will highlight a series of four special rules being implemented for use solely during the 2025 AT&amp;T WNBA All-Star Game, set for Saturday, July 19 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis (8:30 p.m. ET on ABC, Disney+ and ESPN+).
The special rules being put into effect for the purpose of providing added excitement and an enhanced pace of play for the 2025 AT&amp;T All-Star Game format, are as follows:
AT&amp;T 4-Point Shot 
• Four circles – two at each end of the court – will be placed above the current three-point line at a distance of 28-feet from the rim [approximately six feet further than the current three-point line]
• Each four-foot circle shall be designated as the “AT&amp;T 4-Point Shot” area
• Any shot made by a player who has contact within the 4-point area upon attempting the shot will be credited as four points
• For every AT&amp;T 4-Point Shot made, AT&amp;T will make a donation to foundations supported by the WNBA and selected by players

20-Second Shot Clock 
• The shot clock will be shortened from 24 to 20 seconds. The shot clock will still reset to 14 seconds after an offensive rebound.
Live-Play Substitutions 
Teams will be permitted to implement hockey-like player substitutions while the ball is in play, provided certain conditions are met:
• Only the offensive team may make live-play substitutions, and only one player substitution is permitted per possession
• One player can exit the court, and another can enter onto the court only while their team has possession of the ball in the backcourt
• The players exiting and entering the court must do so in the backcourt between the 28-foot mark and the half-court line
• The player entering onto the court may not touch the ball in the backcourt
Not adhering to any of the above guidelines will result in a turnover and the ball shall be awarded to the opposing team.
Automatic Points for Free-Throw Attempts: “No Free-Throws” 
• In circumstances that would require a player to shoot free throw(s), the player will automatically be credited with the maximum available point(s) given the situation. In such cases, the box score will reflect the appropriate number of free-throws as attempted and as made
• The only time in which players will physically attempt a free throw will be during the last two minutes of the fourth quarter and during the entirety of any overtime period(s)
