Atlanta Dream Sign Forward Jessica Breland

ATLANTA – Atlanta Dream head coach Nicki Collen announced the signing of unrestricted free agent forward Jessica Breland to multi-year contract.

“Jessica is a huge get for us,” Collen said. “It was a hard decision for her to leave a place that was comfortable for her and take a chance on the Dream and me, but I am incredibly thankful for the chance to coach her. I believe she is a perfect fit for our up-tempo system. I can’t wait to see her in a Dream uniform.”

Breland, a six-year veteran, started 33 of 34 games for the Chicago Sky in 2017. A big with range, Breland averaged a career-high 9.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. She was one of the top unrestricted free agents available this offseason.

“I want to thank the Chicago Sky for some incredible memories,” Breland said. “I am looking forward to creating memories and experiences with the Atlanta Dream. I am excited to take this next step in my career with Coach Nicki and my new teammates.”

Standing 6’3”, Breland was selected 13th overall in the 2011 WNBA Draft out of North Carolina by the Lynx and was traded to New York in a draft night deal. She has averaged 7.0 points and 5.2 rebounds over 176 career games. Her addition will add another shot-blocking force to the Dream’s front court, having averaged at least 1.0 block per game in five of her six seasons in the league.

“Jessica is a true stretch power forward who will help us at both ends of the floor,” Collen added. “Her length, shot blocking ability, and rebounding will be assets on the defensive end while her ability to score from the perimeter and handle the ball will help us space the floor and be more dynamic offensively.”
