Look back at the late Anne Donovan’s legendary career in women’s basketball.
WNBA President Lisa Borders’ statement on Donovan’s passing: “A decorated player and trailblazing coach, Anne Donovan played a seminal role in the growth of women’s basketball. For all she accomplished in college, the WNBA and on the international stage during her Hall of Fame career, Anne will also be remembered as a valued mentor and dear friend to so many in the game. On behalf of the WNBA, we extend our deepest sympathies to the Donovan family during this difficult time.”
- Donovan played collegiate ball at Old Dominion. She graduated as the school’s all-time leader in points, rebounds and blocks.
- Donovan played for the USA National Team during the 1980s. She’s pictured here during the 1984 Olympics, where she won the first of two career Olympic gold medals.

- Donovan began coaching in the WNBA in 2000. In her first season as a full-time WNBA head coach, she led the Charlotte Sting to the Finals in 2001.

- Donovan coaches the USA Basketball Women’s National Team in a semifinal game of the 2006 FIBA World Championship
- Donovan coaches the USA Basketball Women’s National Team in the 2008 Olympic Games, en route to a gold medal. She served as a USA Basketball coach from 1998-2008.
- In 2009, Donovan returned to the WNBA as a New York Liberty assistant. She took over as head coach midway through that season.
- Donovan coaches the Connecticut Sun in 2013, her fourth and final WNBA head coaching job, which she held through the 2015 season.
