Chicago Sky Guard Allie Quigley Named 2014 WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year Presented by Samsung

NEW YORK, Aug. 24, 2014  Chicago Sky guard Allie Quigley is the winner of the 2014 WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year presented by Samsung award, the league announced today. Quigley received 26 votes from a national panel of 38 sportswriters and broadcasters to earn her first WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year presented by Samsung honor. Jia Perkins of the San Antonio Stars finished second with six votes, rookie Shoni Schimmel of the Atlanta Dream finished third with four votes, and Danielle Adams of the Stars received two votes to finish in fourth place.

This marks the first season that Samsung, an official WNBA marketing partner, is serving as the presenting partner of the WNBAs highest individual honors. The WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year, WNBA Most Valuable Player, WNBA Most Improved Player, WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, WNBA Rookie of the Year, and the WNBA Players of the Month and Rookie of the Month awards are a part of the WNBA Performance Awards presented by Samsung program.

Quigley played in all 34 games this season, averaging 24.8 minutes per contest. Among Eastern Conference players, Quigley ranked 12th in scoring (11.2 ppg), nearly tripling her 3.8 ppg from 2013. The Joliet, Ill., native also ranked sixth in the league in free-throw percentage (.879, 51-of-58) and eighth in three-point field goal percentage (.387, 41-of-106). In perhaps her best game of the season, Quigley registered a career-high 27 points to go along with five rebounds and four steals in a 81-79 loss against Atlanta on July 13.

Quigley received the first Player of the Week award of her career for games played Aug. 4 through Aug. 10. The sixth-year pro out of DePaul came off the bench in all three games that week to lead the East in scoring (18.0 ppg) as Chicago posted a 2-1 mark. For the week, Quigley also paced Eastern Conference players in field goal percentage (.700, 21-of-30) and three-point field goal shooting (.625, 5-of-8).

In honor of being named the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year presented by Samsung, Quigley will receive $5,000 and a specially-designed trophy from Tiffany & Co.
