Countdown to 2016: 1 (Liberty Earn First-Ever No. 1 Overall Seed)

The New York Liberty dominated the 2015 WNBA regular season on their way to posting the best record in the league for the first time in franchise history.
Led by WNBA All-Star and former MVP Tina Charles, head coach Bill Laimbeer’s team emerged as a force to be reckoned with on both ends of the floor. Defensively, the Liberty were energized all year long by the shot blocking ability of rookie center Kiah Stokes, who set the Liberty single-game block record (8) against the Connecticut Sun.
Fellow rookie Brittany Boyd brought an new flair to Laimbeer’s offense with her quickness and ability to penetrate, drive and create open looks for herself and her teammates.

And offseason acquisition Epiphanny Prince was crucial to what the Liberty accomplished in 2015. Her ability to create her own shot off the dribble gave opposing teams fits.
Despite coming up just short of a WNBA Finals berth, the groundwork has been laid for the Liberty’s core, and 2016 looks to be an opportunity for the franchise to continue to build on their positive momentum.
