The Moment

The Stars honored one of San Antonio’s finest when Becky Hammon’s No. 25 was raised to the rafters at the AT&T Center. Now a Spurs assistant coach, Hammon played the final eight seasons of her career with the Stars and retired as the franchise’s all-time leader in points per game, assists and three-pointers.

All-Access: Becky Hammon Jersey Retirement

The Significance

It’s difficult to explain Hammon’s significance to the Stars; she’s synonymous with the franchise and has been a pioneer even after retiring from the WNBA. While Hammon made two All-Star appearances with the New York Liberty during the first half of her career, she blossomed into a star in San Antonio.

The Stars fell short of capturing a title during Hammon’s prime, but they made six straight playoff appearances, including a trip to the WNBA Finals in 2008. Their fearless point guard earned the nickname “Big Shot Becky” for her clutch play and in 2016 was named to the WNBA Top 20@20 team.
