A'ja Wilson had a stellar start to her WNBA career on Sunday, posting 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists as her Las Vegas Aces defeated the China National Team 98-63.
The No. 1 pick in WNBA Draft 2018, Wilson scored nine quick points in the first quarter on Sunday. She opened 4-of-4 from the field as the Aces led 20-12 after the opening frame of their inaugural preseason game. After cooling down, Wilson had another hot start to the second half and finished 8-of-11 from the floor in 22 minutes. Her 20 points and seven rebounds were both team highs.
Nia Coffey added 15 points for the Aces, and Ivey Slaughter tallied 12 off the bench. Shao Ting had a game-high 22 points for China.
The Aces finish preseason action next Sunday against Dallas, and they will officially open their first season in Las Vegas on May 20 at Connecticut. Wilson will be put to the test right away against All-Star center Jonquel Jones.
