Career Description
A Dawn Staley fan as a youngster (she hung Staley’s Charlotte Sting jersey on her wall), Mitchell helped now-coach Staley raise the SC program to national prominence with an appearance in the Final Four in 2015 and Sweet 16 in 2016, and as a junior won the award named for Staley as the nation’s top guard. Leaves as a three-time All-America honoree, three-time All-SEC First Team pick (2014, ‘15, ‘16), and two-time SEC Player of Year (Coaches – 2014, ‘15; AP – ‘15). Ranks 2nd among SC’s career leaders in 3PFG% and FT%. 2015-16: All-America Second Team (AP); Third Team (espnW); SEC Tournament MVP after delivering Gamecocks’ second-straight SEC Tournament title; finalist for Wade, Naismith, Staley nat’l awards. 2014-15: All-America First Team (ESPN, AP, Wooden); Staley Award winner and Wooden Award finalist. 2013-14: As a soph, was All-America Third Team (AP) and an SEC All-Defensive Team pick a year after being named to SEC All-Freshman Team.
