To highlight civic engagement efforts, with an emphasis on the impact of voting on reproductive health matters within communities of color and the LGBTQ+ community.
The 2024 Commissioner’s Cup presented by Coinbase continues to feature a platform through which the League makes charitable contributions to non-profit organizations aligned to the teams’ social justice work. Through Commissioner’s Cup play, each team accumulates donation dollars that will be presented to their charitable organization at the conclusion of the Commissioner’s Cup Championship.
Below is a list of the non-profits that each of the teams have chosen to support through their 2024 Commissioner’s Cup play.
Atlanta Dream: Helping Mamas
Helping Mamas is the baby supply bank of Georgia and East Tennessee. Diapers are as essential to a baby’s healthy development as a mother’s love. Keeping infants and toddlers clean, dry, and healthy is key to building a solid foundation for all children to reach their full potential. But one in three families struggles to provide clean diapers for their baby. To date, Helping Mamas has served over 200,000 children in need and has distributed over three million essential baby supplies to families living in poverty. In Atlanta alone, Helping Mamas works with over 150 partner agencies across the state to supply mothers in need with essential items like diapers, car seats, pack-n-plays, clothing, and hygiene items.
Chicago Sky: EverThrive Illinois
EverThrive Illinois has been advancing the health and safety of Illinoisans by supporting access to quality health care and providing resources to achieve health equity. EverThrive ensures people from communities most impacted by injustice have the access, resources, health care, and choice to create and sustain healthy families on their own terms..
Connecticut Sun: Reproductive Equity Now
Reproductive Equity Now works to make equitable access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care a reality for all people regardless of their race, ethnicity, income, zip code, gender, age, immigration status, ability, sexual orientation, or religion. Advancing reproductive justice and eliminating barriers to safe, legal abortion care are central to our mission.
Dallas Wings: The Afiya Center
The Afiya Center transforms lives, health, and overall wellbeing of Black womxn and girls by providing refuge, education, and resources; they act to ignite the communal voices of Black womxn resulting in the full achievement of reproductive freedom. The Afiya Center is unique in that it is the only Reproductive Justice organization in North Texas founded and directed by Black womxn.
Indiana Fever: Indiana Black Expo
Established in 1970, Indiana Black Expo has for more than half a century been an effective, respected voice advocating for change and the advancement of our communities across the state of Indiana.
Las Vegas Aces: Reproductive Freedom for All
Reproductive Freedom for All Nevada, a state chapter of Reproductive Freedom for All, builds grassroots and political power to engage and mobilize communities, lobby state lawmakers, and advocate for reproductive freedom. In Nevada, Reproductive Freedom for All is championing expanding reproductive freedom and defending access to abortion and other forms of reproductive health care in the southwest.
Los Angeles Sparks: Feminist Majority Foundation
The Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF), which was founded in 1987, is a cutting-edge organization dedicated to women’s equality, reproductive health, and non-violence. In all spheres, FMF utilizes research and action to empower women economically, socially, and politically. Our organization believes that feminists of all genders are the majority, but this majority must be empowered.
Minnesota Lynx: Gender Justice
Gender Justice envisions a world where everyone can thrive regardless of their gender, gender expression, or sexual orientation. Central to this work is dismantling the legal, political, and structural barriers to gender equity.
New York Liberty: Women Creating Change
