What is the Solar Power Dance Team?
Solar Power is the official dance team of the WNBA's Connecticut Sun.

Tell me a little about Solar Power.
The Solar Power Dance team is entering its second season. The co-ed dance team made up of 12 of New England�s most talented dancers, gymnasts, and entertainers. They perform at all Connecticut Sun home games and at various community appearances.

What is the audition process like?
The audition will consist of 4 rounds:

  1. Freestyle/Special talents - Opportunity to tumble and display any other special talents you think could make your addition to the squad more valuable. This will give us the chance to see how move in different situations.
  2. Technique skills- dancers will be asked to show pirouettes, leaps, and jumps on both the Left and the Right sides.
  3. Dance routine � approx. 1 minute in length, moderate to difficult, freestyle dance will be required in the routine
  4. Interviews � a panel of Connecticut Sun staff members along with the teams coordinator will spend 10-15 minutes finding out more about your personality and dance history
  5. Final round audition � performance of dance routine at Mohegan Sun with possible crowd interaction

The flyer says �gymnastics background� � is it okay if I cannot tumble?
Absolutely � we are seeking dancers with all different �entertainment� strengths and skills and tumbling is not a requirement of every team member.

Will I need to prepare my own routine?
No � all routines will be taught, although there will be portions of the audition where freestyle dancing is required. This will give you the opportunity to display your personal dance strengths � break-dancing, tumbling, turns, etc. so prepare now!

When/Where are the auditions?
Auditions are Monday, April 11th with callbacks on Tuesday, April 12th. Registration starts at 5pm and the audition starts at 6pm at Mohegan Sun Convention Center � Salon D2. You must be able to attend all days. No exceptions! Directions are as follows:

  • From New London: Take I-95 South to Exit 84N (Route 32 North). Take Route 32 North to I-395 North. Take Exit 79A, (Route 2A) East. Less than 1 mile to Mohegan Sun Boulevard.
  • From Hartford: (Bradley International Airport) I-91 South to I-84 East to Route 2 East to I-395 South. Take Exit 79A (Route 2A) East. Less than 1 mile to Mohegan Sun Boulevard.
  • From Bridgeport: Take I-95 North to Exit 76/I-395 North. Take Exit 79A (Route 2A) East. Less than 1 mile to Mohegan Sun Boulevard.

    Can my friends and family watch the auditions?
    The first day, Monday, April 11th, auditions are closed to the public. Your family and friends may wait outside of the audition room. On Tuesday, April 12th (the second day of auditions), there will be an opportunity for family and friends to watch. The time will be determined at the end of the auditions on April 11th.

    What should I bring with me?
    Please bring a current dance resume, photo and a $20 check payable to the Connecticut Sun. Photo & check are non-refundable.

    How late will the audition last?
    Auditions are scheduled for 4 hours each night, so plan accordingly.

    What should I wear?

    Dance sneakers or tennis shoes with non-marking soles, along wit performance ready hair and make-up. Wear dance attire that shows your personal �style�. Dress appropriately and be creative!

    (Note: Ladies � attire should work well in a kid, family-friendly environment.)

    For the interview, we ask that you come in business casual attire. You will be able to change into your dance attire prior to the final round of the audition.

    How many Solar Power team members will be chosen?
    The team will be made up of 12 members, consisting of both males and females.

    What are you looking for when choosing the members of Solar Power?
    Members of a qualified panel of judges and team director/choreographer will be observing dancers while you are learning, performing, and interacting with one another. We will be seeking dance ability, projection, performance ability, personality, personal style, and overall attitude and enthusiasm.

    How will I know if I have made the 2005 Solar Power Dance Team� will you announce the team on April 12th?
    The team will be announced on Tuesday, April 12th. Team members also will be posted on the Connecticut Sun website (www.connecticutsun.com) on Thursday, April 14th.

    If I make the team, what is required of the Solar Power Dance Team?
    Solar Power dancers will be required to attend an orientation meeting, all scheduled rehearsals and 15 of the 17 home games. Each game night 10 of the 12 members on the team will be required to perform.

    Is this a paid position?
    Yes � however, terms of the contract and pay are discussed with the 12 team members chosen.
