Connecticut Sun Foundation Accepting Applications For Third Annual Bright Horizons Scholarship

The Connecticut Sun Foundation is proud to announce that applications are now available for the Third Annual Bright Horizons Scholarship.

The $10,000 scholarship, which will be distributed in $2,500 increments annually, will be awarded to one graduating Connecticut high school senior who will attend an accredited four-year college or university in the state of Connecticut.

�I�m very happy that the Connecticut Sun Foundation is continuing its goal to give back to the local community by offering the Bright Horizons Scholarship for the third consecutive year,� said Chris Sienko, Connecticut Sun general manager and a member of the Connecticut Sun Foundation Board of Directors. �We had many exceptional candidates for the scholarship in the past two years and we are looking forward to being able to help another deserving Connecticut high school senior further their education again in 2009.�

Applicants for the scholarship must meet a variety of criteria, which includes but is not limited to, a demonstrated financial need and a minimum 1300 score on the SAT or 28 on the ACT. All applicants must provide information detailing their extracurricular activities and honors, two letters of recommendation that reference their academic and community status as well as a 500-word essay describing the greatest challenge in their community and how they hope to make a positive impact.

The first recipient of the Bright Horizons Scholarship was Rebecca Wilcox, a graduate of Terryville High School. Wilcox is currently a business major at the University of Connecticut. The recipient of the scholarship in 2008 was Audrey Sperry, a graduate of Windsor High School. Sperry is now a student at Connecticut College.
