Catching Up with ... Ashley Robinson

All offseason long, StormBasketball.com will help you keep in touch with your favorite Storm players with regular Q&As. We're already charting all the stats in StormTracker. Here, we'll try to learn a little bit more about what life is like off the court overseas. We start with center Ashley Robinson, who is playing for Frisco Brno in the Czech Republic.

StormBasketball.com: First, we have to ask about former Storm player Shyra Ely's wedding two weekends ago. What was your role as a bridesmaid?
Robinson: Shyra's wedding was full of love and just happiness. Her and Pee Wee have been together since our college days. It was amazing to see his growth as a man. They are truly best friends and will be together forever. And Shy stayed true to her fabulous self. Her wedding was so chic and fashionable. The theme was "Old Hollywood Glam!" My role as a Bridesmaid was to first just get there (lol). I flew from Montpellier to Paris to Charlotte to Indianapolis the day before the wedding. Shy didn't ask much of me. All I had to do was hang out and look pretty walking down the aisle.

What was the highlight of the wedding?
I got caught up in the love Pee Wee and Shyra share. It is the type of love we all dreamed about as little girls. And my Godson's parents, Barbara and Calvin, were there and Calvin surprised us with his new haircut. Now him and Mar'Quees (his son) really are twins.

How many Tennessee players were there?
Loree Moore came from Cali with her mother Paulette. Tasha Butts, an LSU assistant coach, was a bridesmaid as well.

What is the city of Brno like? How much have you gotten out to see it so far?
I'm not much for sight seeing. So I've seen the inside of the gym, the grocery store and my apartment. It's a nice city that is easy to get around. Weather: Cold, rainy and no sun most days.

Having Washington Mystics guard Jasmine Thomas as your teammate and both having Krystal Thomas (the Storm's third-round pick who was Jasmine Thomas' roommate at Duke) as a mutual friend, has that made it easier?
I get along with everyone, so I knew Jaz and I would hit it off. Krystal introduced me to her this summer. All the Duke rookies are really sweet. I've already adopted her as a little sister.

How important is it to get along with your American teammates when you're playing overseas?
I couldn't imagine not getting along with my American teammates overseas - or at home for that matter. But overseas we depend on each other for everything, so it makes life a lot easier when you love each other. (That sounds way corny. Lol!)

Have you figured out why your team's nickname is the Frogs?
I have no idea what the Frog is all about. Green is my favorite color so I was happy to see our colors are lime green, black and white. Now if I can only get one of my many friends with Nike contracts (Sue, L, Swin, Cappie, Diana to just name a few) to get me some lime green kicks to sport on the court. Please and thank you!

How different is playing in the Euroleague?
Everybody is good in Euroleague. I've enjoyed the high level of competition every week. It's just a great opportunity to better my game and play in front of and against the best in Europe.

Which Storm teammate are you most looking forward to playing against?
All of my teammates in Euroleague play on these super teams so I'm not looking forward to playing any of them. Lol! I would love to see all of them because when the season is over I truly miss seeing all of their beautiful faces every day. The Storm women are for sure bright spots in my world.
