SEATTLE - Seattle Storm Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Brian Agler announced today that 6-4 veteran center Ashley Robinson has signed a multi-year deal with the reigning WNBA champs.
"Ashley is a big part of the success we've experienced over the past few years, especially during the 2010 season," said Agler. "She is highly regarded by the Storm organization, coaching staff and her teammates, and we are excited she has decided to continue her WNBA career in Seattle."
Robinson played in 30 games for Seattle in 2010 and holds Storm career averages of 1.4 points per game and 2.3 rebounds per game. A former Lady Vols player, Robinson was acquired by the Storm in 2006 as part of a trade with the Chicago Sky in exchange for Cisti Greenwalt and a 2007 second-round draft pick. Robinson was selected by the Phoenix Mercury in the second round (14th overall) in the 2004 WNBA Draft.
Additionally, 6-3 forward Aneika Henry has been added to the Storm's 2011 training camp roster. Henry, a former Florida Gator, is currently playing for Mann Filter Zaragoza and averaging 11.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals for the Spanish club.
"I watched Aneika play in Spain this past January and she has steadily improved since her college days at Florida," said Agler. "She possesses the athleticism of a WNBA athlete and is a solid addition to our training camp roster."
Australians Abby Bishop and Alison Lacey have decided to forego the 2011 WNBA season in favor of training with the Australian National Team. Bishop, who averaged 2.8 points and 1.3 rebounds in 16 games during her rookie year, signed with the Storm as a free agent on April 4, 2010. Lacey, the Storm's first- round draft pick (10th overall selection) in the 2010 WNBA Draft, averaged 6.9 minutes in 21 games.
Robinson and her Storm teammates will open the WNBA season with a nationally televised game on ABC on Saturday, June 4 in a 12 noon matchup against the Phoenix Mercury at KeyArena. 2011 Storm season tickets starting at just $10 per seat, per game and deposits for group tickets and ticket packages are available online at stormbasketball.com or by calling 206-217-WNBA.Comments blog comments powered by Disqus
