The Sting open their second season at home on June 11 with an 83-57 win over the Washington Mystics. Charlotte begins the season winning seven of their first eight games.
On June 21, rookie Tracy Reid connects on a 16-foot jumpshot with 2.4 seconds remaining to give the Sting a 72-71 victory at Phoenix.
On June 24, Sharon Manning grabs nine offensive rebounds as the Sting defeat the Sparks in Los Angeles 77-73. Manning�s nine offensive rebounds still stands as a Sting record.
On July 17, the Sting defeat the Mystics 85-56 in Charlotte. The win is the team�s fifth straight and boosts their record to 13-3.
Charlotte ends their second season with a 105-69 victory over the Mystics in Washington. The 105 points still stands as a Sting record for most points in a game, while the 36-point margin of victory is the largest in team history.
Vicky Bullett sets the high water mark with the most consecutive games with 10-plus rebounds, posting three from July 30 to August 3.
Charlotte advances to the playoffs for the second consecutive year but again have to face the eventual WNBA Champion Houston Comets in the first round. They fall 2-0 in the series.
Tracy Reid earns the 1998 Rookie of the Year Award after averaging 13.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in 32.28 minutes.
Andrea Stinson again leads the Sting in scoring averaging 15.0 points along with 4.5 assists.
The Sting average 71.4 points over the course of the season, the highest point average in team history.
